Safer alternative to Web Of Trust?

I have had the WoT addon installed for years, and it has worked very well apart from a few false positives.

But I read this article just now, which suggests it's not so safe: http://www.ghacks.net/2016/11/01/browsing-history-sold/

Does anyone know of a good alternative?

Good question. Inquiring minds want to know.

Oh, come on, people, surely someone knows of something.

Wondering this too. Subbed.

Linkextend might be a viable alternative, but it tries to do way to much and needs config to remove bloat. I'll try it again soon and update my post.

PS: Tried Avira Browser Security and Link Extend. Basically ABS is a poor replacement and LE was broken.

Avira seems to take no issue with the site, yet WOT reports malware etc.

there's the mess LE leaves you with. Its possible to clean it up to only include a polite icon though. Unfortunately it wouldn't work for me; I tried several different search engines, and no icons indicating site safety (or anything else) were visible. It also comes with several site advisirs (Norton, Mcafee, etc) including WOT which can be disabled, though unclear if they still get your data. I might give LE another shot if I can't find anthing else.

Because seemingly innocent or safe websites could have hidden dangers we may not recognize, no matter how careful we are. It's not unusual for a previously safe website to become infected.

It's also a lot quicker to see the red icon and think "ok I won't click on that" than clicking on it and trawling through whatever site it is to figure out if its legit.

I haven't used WoT for a month now and I miss it. Not enough to serve them my data on a platter though.

It must not work all that well because WOT (before I removed it) would still pickup an occasional disreputable website and I've yet to see MBAM block or report one.

The above is not an alternative at all, it's an adblocker. I have uBlock Origin for that.

What we are looking for here is an add-on which reports the reputation of a site, ideally by aggregating the votes of many of its users.

Adguard, in addition to blocking ads, also will alert on or block dodgy sites.

Just looked it up, it does, woops. But, that service is provided by Web Of Trust. So it might not be any safer!
