I'm not waiting for "Paid" reviews as they are as good as member reviews in terms of how the results are reported. What do members here say regarding this driver ? Anyone on GCN1 cards seeing gains or stable performance ?

I haven't had these installed overly long but...

I've been playing WoW with some friends and decided to try these with my Asus RX 480 that I haven't written many positive things about in the past.

My personal experience with this card previously was I was lucky to see a "low" temp of 74c and it often was up into the low 80c range. The clocks would also fluctuate alot. So far today I have not seen a high temp over 62c, the clocks are solid and I'm not being deafened by the fan noise when I take my headset off... because I can't even hear fans over the sound of my cat taking a bath.

I haven't ever played with the OC mode on this card so I'm still at the stock 1310 core clock just a "for reference" comment. As in the past per my comments its never held 1310.. but it is now. My Sapphire card never had a problem holding it's 1340'ish clock with past drivers. I haven't tested with the Sapphire because it's currently on other duties.

So.. so far looks good but that's just with the limited use from this morning.

Does chill work with xfire?

Downloading now on my laptop... will need to try it on the 290x rig when I'm off of work. If they managed some performance gains on BF1, great. Runs good as is, but I'll always take more, even 1 more fps

The chill feature looks like it could come in handy in certain games, too.

Is it just me or is WattMan totally useless for R9 290? I mean, it doesn't allow me to define a fan curve and the manual voltage settings won't stick. What's even more annoying is that Sapphire TriXX doesn't seem to work with the new driver, either. Setting voltage seems to work, but the clock frequency settings don't take effect. Clicking apply only introduces screen tearing that won't go away without a reboot.

Seems like a nice driver, if only I could use it

You and others new to wattman should find this useful

"make sure that you have the Voltage Control toggle for both the GPU and the Memory in the Manual control position. If these aren't both in Manual mode, your voltage adjustments won't have any effect, in a bizarre WattMan quirk."

The link above is pretty extensive and useful for tweaks, albeit older, it should still apply.

I'm surprised to see ReLive is every bit as good as ShadowPlay (which is pretty damn good).. Must admit i had my doubts, ReLive's audio bit-rate is also a win. I've been saying for ages that SP needs more options for audio, they have video more than covered.

I'm happy with the direction that AMD is going with their drivers.

They seem to be getting better right now at a time that Nvidia for whatever reason is getting worse (they've had a few slip ups as of late).

AMD GPUs are not as power efficient at DX11, but they seem to be trying their best right now. That's tough, especially because it's not secret that AMD is in financial difficulty. Here's to hoping for a good Zen launch.

Equally important (for enthusiasts), I like that they are pushing Split Frame Rendering with DX12 and Vulkan. Crossfire, where it works is also scaling better than SLI. I just hope that more games gain good CF support and ideally, SFR support.

I just hope that Vega proves to be as good as some of the hype (as good as a GTX 1080 at DX11, which means a lot better at DX12). They've got a lot of work to do making a balanced GPU. The Fury X was short on ROPs and triangle performance. The Polaris GPUs needed more Z/Stencil ROPs. Hopefully because Vega is new, there will be more opportunities for change.

Also, AMD will be releasing some big improvements on Linux as well. Linux Kernel 4.9 is expected to have some huge improvements to AMD drivers. It should be a few days before the next Kernel is out.

Let's just hope that it translates into better game performance too.

Synthetics are not always a perfect reflection of actual game performance.

Exactly same problem here. All my overclock profiles of trixx (latest version) are now useless with the new driver. Applying them causes tearing which goes away only with a reboot. I am on an R9 290X/8GB Vapor-X OC. Also, is it just me, or is Wattman, a little bit complicated to handle? I don't want to blame AMD, new features are most welcome, but still this is a bitt annoying.

Is it the same Wattman as the 480 has had already? If so, then yea totally overly complicated interface. I much preferred the layout and controls from Overdrive.
Whats with all the silly stages? Whats wrong with the good old days of having a clock speed and a sliding bar with specific values (not silly %'s) to give you the exact overclock you want?!?!?!

I'll download and install this new version when i get home though not holding my breath.

I agree 100%

Radeon Chill actually seems to be viable too.. Seems it isn't just a gimmick, but hardly has an impact on the experience while dramatically dropping power consumption/thermals. Obviously i wouldn't use it in FPS/online, but for TW3, etc., it's a no-brainer.

I'll give them credit, didn't expect them to deliver, GG AyyMD.

Thanks, seems like good guide. But the voltage adjustment tip isn't it. Both GPU and memory voltage toggles seem to be linked so both are always either ON or OFF. Still, it won't accept the changes I make.

I think WattMan has a lot of potential. I don't particularly care if the interface is a bit complex, it won't take long to get accustomed. And I was also very interested to give Chill a try. But for now, there is simply no other choice for me but rollback to the previous driver. Hopefully a hotfix won't take long.

Why do both Nvidia and AMD continue to release such BS deceptive marketing graphs?

Yes the 8% gain warrants a bar more than double the length of the 100% bar...

Any other programs that might be conflicting with it? AB or something?

I'll hold off a bit before updating, don't want to download 500MB to have to get a hotfix a day or two later.

My update: I set everything to dynamic. (memory and core settings in wattman). A problem that I previously had with all drivers, was that my 144Hz monitor was forcing the GPU memory to run at full speed (1400 Mhz) all the time, even when the GPU was idle. Only when I reverted to 60Hz the GPU Memory was going to idle state. Now this problem doesn't exist. Setting everything to dynamic has seem to have fixed it. I verified this with wattman graph, GPU-Z and Trixx Monitor. I will play around a little bit more and see if I find something more.
