What is a good mobo for dual xeon x5650's? Im thinking of building a system with 2 of them with a rx 480. I want something thats better than my craptop.
So it looks like im getting a dual socket mobo, 2x xeon x5670's, 2 more 8gb ram kits, another cpu cooler, a rx 480 and a psu to power everything, and possibly a 4 tb drive. Just thinking of something with 2x 6 core 12 thread cpu's in it sounds beastly. I aleready have the case so thats why I wouldnt do that. If I had to buy everything new I would look into that more. The case I'm gonna use is the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M. Its a nice little case with a lot of features for the price.
I was actually thinking earlier that a system with dual cpus and a dual gpu card would be pretty cool. It actually was tempting me to do it just for the lols.

I also forgot to mention i do a lot of graphics design using adobe illustrator and photoshop, so all the extra threads will really be useful. I also plan to use Affinity Photo once I get it.
Just not in single thread, will destroy it in multi.
Though not being able to OC them will be a huge blow.
Still those old 6 core 1366 chips pack a pretty decent punch.
With Zen so close to coming out, It would be better to wait for that.
The 8 Core Monster is what I'm waiting on. My 2600K @ 4.8ghz already provides all the single thread Power I need. I want more Cores and Intel has not provided in any decently budgeted form.

Oh, yeah, dual 1366 for multi thread I agree, I want to build myself ones of those (actually want to build a dual e5-2670 too since they're not much more expensive now with the processors at $50). A 2600K is still a great processor.
Coffee Lake is bringing six cores to mainstream and is scheduled to come in 2018 with Cannonlake. For the record, more cores doesn't necessarily mean better performance, especially with gaming.
