Twitter user WalkingCat has spotted a Game Mode in Windows 10 Build 14997. As the name suggests, Windows 10 Game Mode is expected to make PC gaming smoother by minimizing the resources that other applications use. The Windows 10 Game Mode is expected to ship with the Creator's Update that's arriving early next year.
This feature will, supposedly, let your PCs act like gaming consoles and let you use the machine just for gaming. It'll be done by adjusting the Windows resource allocation logic (for CPU/Gfx etc.).
im not really sure what this would gain since the strengths of the consoles isnt the lack of background processes but the fact that the games are designed to perfectly meld with the hardware....
without that parity on the PCs, something like this wont really make a difference, especially on PCs that arent starved for resources.
While I don't like how they say "let your PCs act like gaming consoles", it sounds like taking all the tweaks a user can make to improve performance and streamlining the process. I'm sure, as it's being released by Microsoft directly, it won't be like all the "Game Boosting" software and the clones they created.
How much can this improve games though... And are there any compromises.
Do they have a "don't restart for updates in the middle of a ranked match" or "don't restart when I get up to pee after typing an essay for 2 hours and not saving it" mode?
Even back in xp if you didn't restart for an update a force restart will happen eventually, and if you type an essay for 2 hours and didn't save then a block out happen would you stop using electric?

Well my windows 10 doesn't auto install updates but I'm using pro Idk about home, and not everyone use Ups. Regardless the 2 reasons you name could of happen on any version of windows if the user just installed Windows and not configure it.

That does not negate the fact that you can no longer prevent updates from installing. And most college students use laptops IME, and those would not be vulnerable to blackouts.
Also, pro will still install updates automatically. You can defer them to a later date, but they WILL install eventually. The only way to prevent them is using enterprise with a WSUS client, or doing some trickery with the registry in pro, which has a habit of not working properly.

I have win10 student at home. I think it's great. I do, however, deal with win10 home/pro at work. I wouldn't let it touch my PC. It's unadulterated cancer.
I remember when they had fully stripped torrent versions of Windows, super lite and fast because all unnecessary things were removed, there wasn't even a photos folder. A legit gaming version like that would be cool.

If you don't save before hitting anywhere near 2 hours of writing it's your own fault at that point.

When I was using W10 the update options were "now" "later" or "disabled via GPO" so it decided I wasn't using my computer in the 5 minutes I walked away from it.
While it can be fixed, it's dumb that it's regressed so horribly since 7.
Wow Microsoft im really proud of this mode
I hope what they should do is once you enable game mode our pc should become xbox
A really powerful xbox
I hope they roll this update soon
Cant wait
heh, I'll believe it when i see it sounds like a gimmick to me and considering microsoft track record this new "game mode" will be "xbox mode" with ads up the ass just like the xbox.
Twitter user HidingPossum has spotted a Power User Mode in Windows 10 Build ?????. As the name suggests, Windows 10 Power User Mode is expected to improve PC user experience by allowing the user complete control over all aspects of their PC's operation. The Windows 10 Power User Mode is expected to ship with the Creator's Update that's arriving early next ????. This feature will, supposedly, let your PC act like you actually have control of it. It'll be done by adjusting the attitude in Redmond.
this or game mode will only work with GFWL, and steam will suddenly become incompatible with your pc in it. Magically all games run outside of game mode will of course, run worse then they did before.
Anybody else besides me used to do this with win 3.11 and later with Win 95-98-xp with two drives. You know it was easy with 3.11 But 95 on was more of a pain in the ass when M$ started going registry and the hive jive code. Funny maybe getting the message Hell No I am sticking Win 7 until you fix this crap.

Nah, back in the Win3.11 days most games were still DOS based.
so, you'll just boot straight to DOS and run your game there.
The few "WinG" (DirectX equivalent) games from those days ran just fine in Win3.11 without optimization.
It has always been the DOS games that were extremely annoying due the 640K memory requirement for many games back in the days. LOL
you had to use QEMM, Himem.sys or other EMM386 to move all the Apps into higher memory to free up space in the 640k for games.
Good times

Windows always attempts to forcefully and trickily restart. One wrong press and you're done.
