Except for e-books, I've been boycotting Amazon because they are not always the low cost leader, they screwed up several orders, they poorly package their orders resulting in numerous damage claims, their AMZL delivery service is frequently late and frequently improperly delivers packages, allow Marketplace vendors to display inaccurate descriptions and/or pictures of products (and do not correct them when it is pointed out to them), frequently sells counterfeit products (or allows their Marketplace vendors to do so, etc. Amazon used to be great but they have gotten too big for their britches!
This is odd. I have never experienced any of what you just described, so I am sorry you've had a bad experience with them.
The reason I like prime is because of the extra services included with it, including their Amazon Prime Video and Music services. On those items alone, it's worth $99 per year. However, once you add on free 2-day shipping, it's an incredible value in my opinion.
