-IX Hero (£231)
-IX Code (£266)
-IX Apex (£284)
-IX Formula (£318)

On comparison they all look pretty similar?
Barring the fact the latter two have both an LN2 switch and a SLOW switch.

Whats the difference?

And are there any other major differences worth noting?

  • I like to do a bit extreme cooling (just for fun with Dry Ice) now & again
  • I like to tinker.
  • And I already own a full custom loop.

Any meaningful (notable) differences worthy of influencing a decision on these boards?

Thanks for any help.

Nick

The Apex is the only board that has 2 DIMM slots instead of 4 DIMM slots.

2 DIMM slots allow for overclocking your memory upwards of 4000mhz and higher, at very tight timings.

Since you wrote you will be doing some sub zero cooling such as dry ice, then I'm assuming you will be also doing some benching and will want to achieve high scores, which is where memory overclocking comes into play and the Apex has been specifically designed for that purpose.

Try hwinfo64. It will give you readings from all the sensors on the board

I have HWinfo64 installed, but it just gives a list of temps, I don't know which is which.

Yes, I can find my drives without issue - what I'm trying to figure out is which one of the temps given is associated with the two pin T_SENSOR connector on the motherboard, or any other means of seeing the temperature it is registering without going into the bios,

Sorry about that, AIDA 64 or AISUITE will show the temp sensors on the MB

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

You need to update your sys specs and wether your overclocking (both ram/cpu) or not? ... But the Asus Z170/Z270 boards all seem to undervolt the Dram, but overvolt the IO/SA voltages from what you set in the bios, but I haven't seen that large of a discrepancy before and all 3 will have an effect on Ram stability. Use HWInfo to confirm your voltages (screenshot would be helpful) ... You can safely go up to appx 1.45v on your Dram but shouldn't need to running stock.

What is more concerning is your "Auto" voltage for CPU System Agent (2 lines down) 1.384v seems way high even for overclocked ram, which ALSO can cause instability if set to high ...

Try this, manually set your Dram @ 1.375v / IO (CPU VCCIO) @ 1.16v / and your SA @ 1.200v ... not sure what board you have, but this is fairly conservative and safe ... wink.gif

EDIT: If it stabilizes, you can then test with lower Dram voltage ... good Ram info thread HERE ... and how to really test ram stability thumb.gif

I have used all my Aida64 Extreme licenses, I guess it's time to pony up $40 more to read this sensor. AI Suite doesn't get along so well with some of my systems, I don't have it loaded.

That is unfortunate, it seems a lot of people have that. I'm one of the lucky ones as it cooperates for me. It may be worth a shot of just installing the thermal radar part to view temps if that will work

Thanks for the help! I'll give these values a shot when I get a chance. (That 1.6 on IO seems like a typo?)

My CPU is currently not over clocked. I was getting some random crashes just with XMP enabled only. What's odd is I've been able to pass HCI memtest to 1000% sometimes and other times I test and get errors without changing any settings.

My system specs are way out of date, but I'm on an Asus z270-prime-ar with a 7700k and 3600 cl16 ram.

Just to clarify, I should be adjusting these values so that the mobo reports the correct values, right? Cause right now if I set dram voltage to 1.35 I only get 1.31 like in my images. I will need to set it to 1.4 to get 1.36 reported from the mobo. These same low values are reported to me in HWinfo as well.
