The only difference between this Asus and samsung is Asus 4K and Samsung 2K .

What about local dimming though?

Thought the Asus at least with local dimming means it's not edge lit, and I read on 144hz website that the Acer has HDR10, which to my knowledge is an actual HDR spec.

If the Samsungs will have local dimming, then it will be edge lit, like all of their local dimming TVs. I don't consider edge local dimming worthwhile, based on my experience with my 2014 Vizio TV (don't remember the model) and the Samsung JS8500.

I apologize if this has already been asked. So in order to use the PG27UQ at 144Hz, I would have to upgrade to an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10 Series card? I believe you need DisplayPort 1.4 to output 144Hz at 4K using Display Stream Compression. Thanks

I need a monitor so bad, but every time I start researching one I run into an endless bug thread and/or an immense volume of user reports of what I consider to be totally unacceptable uniformity issues.

I'm not sure where you're from, but if you're in the US, Amazon makes it pretty easy to get around most of the initial QC issues you'd find. With things like the x34, if you're not seeing any issues within the first 30 days, there's a good chance you won't see any after that. Not to say I haven't seen reports that say otherwise (I've seen various things on Reddit), but it's not a reason to be scared to buy a monitor.

I'm in New Zealand, so there's barely anywhere that offers no-questions-asked returns without heavy restocking fees, and even fewer that offer them for a reasonable time-frame. These days you can easily be looking at 5 RMAs just to get 1 unit without glaring defects, so that's why I try to stick to Dell and HP who offer hassle-free returns with paid shipping and advanced replacements. Buying other brands here involves going through some smaller retailer/etailer, meaning a lot of time and/or money wasted on returns and fights with staff who "can't replicate" the issues.

I'm still looking for 1440p, but it looks like for the top end 1440p monitor Samsung's the one to go to.

I know this has been repeated many times in this thread alone... but I'm curious to see what level of QC we're gonna get from Asus this time around.

I definitely understand the fear of the IPS panels from Acer and Asus then. It's the reason I specifically went with Amazon on my x34.

Has anyone got confirmation on the price of these? You know, for Q1 2020?

I have two 1080 SLI powering 3 "older" Asus VG248QE in portrait, and now I'm looking for an upgrade. I believe I copied an old setup of CallsignVega back in the day but these bezels are a little too thick compared to the new monitors. SO, I'm looking for one super nice monitor or doing three again but with smaller bezels, not sure I want to wait until next year.
