Any chance AIB's will have dual link enabled DVI ports on Vega cards?

I have been waiting for Vega all this time, years now, but now that it's almost here I am wondering if there will even be any DVI enabled versions. Was hoping for the water cooled version of Vega with 8GB HBM2 in the hopes that all games will run at least 120 fps, or close to it. Thanks for some friendly info.

So does mine. But mine is telling me that AIB's will probably have models that will still have DVI. This obviously requires AMD to have engineered the possibility of DVI (like they did with Polaris and Fiji), but I am starting to think no to that for Vega, lol.

Looks like Vega 11 is coming out at the end of the year with Vega 20 in 1h of 2018. Even if AMD doesn't add a DVI, AIBs will.

Why do they always have to be late with the flagship stuff?

290x was 8 months behind OG Titan and 5 month behind the 780.

The 980 went uncontested.

3 months behind OG Titan X. 1 month behind 980Ti.

If Vega comes out in Q1 18, the 1080 will go uncontested for 1.5 year at least, Titan XP for 1 year and a quarter and the 1080Ti for 10 months.

I know most profit is not made from the enthusiast market but for god's sakes AMD, part of the reason why Nvidia has so many sheep as their userbase is because they're always on top. AMD's always late and in second place.

Notice that image is the server roadmap, not the desktop roadmap. They are still late to the party, but I don't think they will be that late. Remember when they were talking about releasing Vega in October 2016? nVidia knows the release date and have already started bumping up memory speeds on all their cards.

Simple answer is AMD hasn't got enough money.

Wrong, it was ALWAYS going to be Volta vs Vega, with Vega expected to be AMD's answer to Volta, AFTER Volta was released. It was ONLY rumours that had Vega coming late 2016 possibly, not AMD. NVIDIA even had a chart showing Volta being released around 2016 (before they quickly replaced it with a new version), but AMD ALWAYS showed Vega in 2017. Both Volta and Vega were the next GPU architectures that were supposed to use stacked memory, NVIDIA with HBC and AMD with HBM. Both were going to be the Next Generation architectures. It was Sk Hynix that ruined it for NVIDIA by not coming through with HBC. On the other hand AMD did not fail bringing HBM to the market, and NVIDIA is now forced to make Volta engineering changes to use HBM2.

So, Vega is coming FIRST, before Volta. The Titan is NOT in the same market so we cant even discuss that card here. And Pascal was instead NVIDIA's answer for not having HBC for Volta ready. Pascal is based on Maxwell which was a very successful architecture, but was designed from the ground up for GDDR5/GDDR5X. I simply can't wait to see what NVIDIA does with Volta and HBM2, just think about that, lol.

It is Volta that is late, not Vega. None of this has anything to do with performance. It has to do with each companies High-End parts. Pascal is utterly amazing IMO, but was NEVER once NVIDIA's intent to use it against FIJI or Vega. That was what Volta was supposed to be for from the beginning.

In the below image Volta is clearly seen coming after Maxwell and around the 2016 time frame. NVIDIA is the one who changed their roadmap and will be late with Volta.

Here you can see Vega was always seen to be in 2017. That has never changed.

And NVIDIA's changed roadmap.

The NVIDIA GTX 1080 is a mighty fine GPU, people should buy it instead of complaining about either company being late with their tech. Vega isn't late, Volta however is.

Yeah and so what, Tesla has absolutely nothing to do with what I said, or with consumer gaming for that matter. I never once said Pascal didn't work with HBM2, I said it was based on a architecture that was designed for GDDR5 from the ground up. That's why NVIDIA scrambled to release Pascal with dual memory technology support and re-issued a new road map because Volta, their true next generation architecture had to be re-engineered for HBM2. If you have billions of dollars like Nvidia it is easy to engineer a knee jerk gpu that works with two different memory technologies, not a problem for them. But Pascal still inherited it's DNA from Maxwell.

My point is, everyone keeps saying Volta is late, when it was 100% always due out in 2017. Volta is the architecture that is late thanks to HBC not panning out like NVIDIA had hoped for.

Its not that difficult to do research.

Extremely valid points but the crux of the matter is that NVIDIA cleaned wallets even with their stop-gap solution which was PASCAL. They reign supreme in a certain segment while AMD's plan, unchanged, does not offer an alternative and customers have one choice for maxed out triple AAA 4K gaming.

AMD should wake up and bring more to the table than just some slides tongue.gif.
