Looking back, AMD has always priced products "high" when they were actually able to compete. Athlon FX was not cheap. 7970 on release, was not cheap either.

I think Vega with HBM2 is going to be expensive, even if performance is lacking. Remember Fury X?

I hope AMD has Vega with GDDR5/X ready, to be able to compete with 1070 directly. If not there will be a huge gap between RX 580 and Vega, both performance and price wise.

Why did AMD price Ryzen so cheap if it performs better than a 6900k in many tasks?

It's mainly because the 6900K is ridiculously overpriced, while the 1080 Ti is only mildly so. Furthermore, Ryzen dies are 200mm^2 dies while Vega is around 500mm^2 with HBM2.

That is the only way they would get market share with the mind share Intel has.

I never once said Pascal didn't work with HBM2, I said it was based on a architecture that was designed for GDDR5 from the ground up. That's why NVIDIA scrambled to release Pascal with dual memory technology support and re-issued a new road map because Volta, their true next generation architecture had to be re-engineered for HBM2. If you have billions of dollars like Nvidia it is easy to engineer a knee jerk gpu that works with two different memory technologies, not a problem for them. But Pascal still inherited it's DNA from Maxwell.

My point is, everyone keeps saying Volta is late, when it was 100% always due out in 2017. Volta is the architecture that is late thanks to HBC not panning out like NVIDIA had hoped for.

Its not that difficult to do research.

Lol I disagree if you live in the UK. £700-850 for a 1080 Ti is precisely ridiculously overpriced so there is ample room for AMD to come significantly under that price here at least and in the actual MRRP.

I hope you are right. It would be nice to discover Vega with 8GB of HBM2 at least $200 under the cost of the 1080 Ti. But somehow I doubt a completely new architecture with new superior memory technologies is going to be cheaper. I'm more willing to bet that Vega will be much stronger than we all think and AMD asks a premium for it. No less than they asked for the Fury X at bare minimum. Which would still be OK.

Nonesense.
ASUS TURBO-GTX1080TI-11G £640

And there are plenty for around £600-620 if you're willing to order from the rest of the EU. Even some of the nice aftermarket designs are well under £700.

Because part of that is marketing and it's real competition is the 7700K in the mainstream lineup.

The thing with the high end is that when you are dropping that much coin, you want the fastest for your money. If Vega isn't generally equal to a 1080TI then AMD should place it against the 1080.

You could have went one step further and found used 1080 Ti's on Amazon France and told me I was even more wrong rolleyes.gif

That's not how it works. They cost £700-900 here in the UK and good luck to the person spending £600 on a product delivered from an overseas country and an obscure site and all the dangers that brings with warranty. I would never do it.
