You have to remember. in most common dx11 titles at the time the fury performed about the same as a custom gtx 980 (but the fury was priced at about >600€ while the gtx 980 cost <500€, and the fury drained 100W more!) and about 15-20% slower than a gtx 980ti (the custom cards cost about 700€ but were about 15-20 % faster in most games... )

I agree it was too expensive. That is the reason i did not buy until price fell.

TDP are you talking Furmark? Because Gaming TDP was comparable to 980ti.

The Fury was an excellent card at its price point, new and used. Fury X put up a good fight... and is a good card, I dont understand where people get all this negativity about it. Pricey? At the time a 980ti was more expensive, and Fury X came with a water cooler, although it didnt cool the vrm's for the ram properly... it was a decent card.

Though i liked everything about the FuryX, except the coil whine.... At the end of the day performance is the determining factor.

980ti was over priced also.

My FuryX is always nice and cool biggrin.gif

Fury X has a bigger die and more shaders than a 980ti and performs about the same. Who cares? Fury X is the Challenger SRT-8 where 980ti is the Mustang 5.0. Both are cool in their own way.

I would put the water cooler as a negative. There was a lack of variety. Not having AIBs was in my opinion a negative of the fury x. They didn't let anyone else try to squeeze anything else out of it. The Fury came in only AIB flavors, but there were, what, 3? Sapphire, ASUS, and I think xfx? Don't get me wrong, the water cooler was cool and all but I wish they'd opened it up to AIBs like they are presumably doing with Vega.

Water cooling isn't a positive, it is like a big lift on a truck, you might want it but not everyone does. Top it off with the incredible noise it made and you had a lot of reason to not like it. AMD would have been better served to drop the water cooling and drop the MSRP.

While I do agree with you that an air cooled card should have absolutely been an option, making it seem like a negative thing is based on your opinion, not most people. Water coolers are proven to be more effective at cooling than air most of the time, and for a premium halo flagship for gamers there is nothing wrong with it. Also, all these complaints about noise are getting old, its a performance flagship card, get over it, my geforce 1080ti at full fan speed is anything but quiet, you dont hear me complaining. You want to complain about a loud graphics card? Try the really old Radeon HD 2900 series that was released back in the day that was trying to compete with the geforce 8800 series... or even the 4870 at full fan speed. Those sounded like vaccum cleaners and jet engines.

Yet i dont see Titans come with watercooling options forced on the consumer. If you need an AIO to sufficiently cool your Gpu it is obviously hot and inefficient.

I dont want an aio gpu and neither do i want to settle for a cut down gpu with aib coolers
Vega is just going to be another Fiji disaster if they restrict wc just like the fury X. Looks like they havent learned thier lessons.
No, Titans now force a rubbish blower cooler on you which throttles under its temps. Let's not pretend that this is somehow more satisfactory than the AIO. In my perfect world both the Fury X and the Titan X would have AIB partner designs as well as the approved configuration, but that's not our world. Also, disaster is hyperbolic. What happened with Fiji was the inevitable result of a cash-strapped AMD trying to keep to a loaded Nvidia's schedule. Against its intended competition, the Titan X, the Fury X was a very attractive price/performance option for those who wanted 1440p/2160p performance but couldn't justify a $1k price. Unfortunately for AMD, Nvidia has both the money and the mindshare needed to compete with itself in any given performance bracket. It's had that even when AMD, and ATi before that, were more than competitive in the GPU space.
