Monitors are starting to be really really overpriced, considering we are getting to a point where you pay for 27' small screen (LED one) almost the same price as for 55-65 Inch OLED TV, with much better quality.

But hey, people buy it, next year new gaming monitor 3k USD.

You have to consider the point Astreon made below. FALD is expensive tech.

Yeah, I really hope the industry moves away from LCD sometime soon.

I do. It still comes too expensive for 27' monitor. Besides we are talking about LCD here. How expensive can be that old tech, come on. That is why I went for 1299USD for 27" monitor. No 27" should cost more than 699 USD. But lets add FALD cost and HDR and "ROG **** ROG ROG ROG" brand and ok= 1299 USD max.

I just think right now it's getting riddiculous. mad.gif

All the complaining about the pricing of this monitor and Titan-Xp these days. The market will determine if these are fitting prices.

I'm sure Benny will vote with his wallet. I do with GPUs, I'll never buy any kind of Titan. As for these monitors, I think I'll also wait for the AOC variant to come out, let the competition battle each other and also wait for a sale perhaps and get the cheapest one. I wonder why the AOC one has lower rated peak brightness than the PG27UQ (800 nits vs 1000).

That's something else I failed to mention earlier; brightness on these monitors will be much better than current ones, maybe on par with good TVs. Far brighter when HDR content demands it.

Surprise surprise!

Unfortunately, only 60Hz frown.gif

And costs 3000$. Thx but no thx. I'd rather get LG B6/C6 for that cash.

I totally agree, having a E6 myself, it's amazing tongue.gif But you gotta give credit to Dell for innovation. They have the first 8k monitor and the first OLED monitor!
Definitely not interested in the Dell (because of its specs), but still hopeful for the Asus monitor. I don't know why Dell would go with 60Hz for its OLED monitor but I guess it's a bandwidth related issue.

Aside:

On the pricing side it seems we can't have a single page without someone again emphasising .that the Asus will not be "worth it" to him/her. I get it, but what's the added value in constantly dumping on the price:performance of a product, before the product is even released? Do you think an Asus rep is going to read this thread and think "Hrm, maybe if we drop the price to 1599 we will sell a lot more"? Even if they have the best monitor in this sector on the market?

It's not going to happen. Market research goes into the pricing of these products before they are ever released and, guess what, even at EUR 1569.00, the Titan Xp is selling on Amazon.de. High prices aren't causing large stockpiles of these goods to accumulate. It just means that the people in the market for these products are willing to spend that kind of money on these products. The entire 'worth it' discussion is almost entirely useless to have unless a substitute good is clearly available that is exactly the same performance and significantly cheaper. The only competition for this Asus monitor will be the Acer. I really don't understand why people are bringing TVs into this discussion - it's an entirely different conversation to be having.

That's because the forums aren't meant to be a place where you only say how awesome something is. smile.gif The world would suck without critique. And if people feel the price is too much, they have the right to criticize it.

There's always rich people who don't mind the price, but they are - despite their power - the minority.

There's always rich people who don't mind the price, but they are - despite their power - the minority.

There is a massive difference between criticism (the monitor doesn't perform well; the quality control is bad; the size is too small) and what is essentially whining (I don't have enough money for X therefore X isn't worth it and should be made cheaper). My point is that every single page discussing this monitor has some of the same people trying to repeat their message over and over again "the price is too high". I get it - some people think the price is too high. What do they think is going to happen by repeating that message over and over again?

People will vote with their wallets and the price will be adjusted accordingly. Premium products, despite their price points, continue to sell like hot cakes. So, regardless of majorities or minorities, or vocal majorities or minorities, the fact of the world is that premium products still and will continue to sell well. That's why Dell can release that OLED monitor at that price point. That's why this monitor will be around USD 2000.
