NON-Gaming Twitch Streaming Rig

Hey all. I have found a TON of great threads for gaming and streaming PC's, but none are for what I'm looking for. I want to stream working on my truck this winter/spring, and was wondering what a good set-up would be. I currently play and stream on my 4790k-770 with OBS, and play a few lighter games on my G3258-760 rig. Would my G3258 be able to handle OBS, 2 webcams, and Pandora? I will try it out when I get home, but was wondering if anyone has suggestions for this type of setup. I'd like to keep things cheap for now, but if it requires some beef, I'll think about changing my 4790k PC to a streaming rig, and upgrade to a newer gaming machine.

Why don't you use your 4790K system to do it? Why build a new system for streaming when you already have one?

I probably wouldn't trust a Pentium for the task. You can test it out and see how that works. I figure you'd want an i3 at least.

I'd prefer not to leave my 4790k in the garage, with dirt, oil, dust, etc. It's also my "cadilac" PC right now, and it's not terribly portable. I could re-case it into a portable, smaller case, I'd feel better about that.

edit: But shoot, if you recommend an i3, I could get a new chip and use the same everything else (in place of the G3258)

I would test out the G3258 before replacing the processor. If it can handle streaming, there's no need to get a different processor.

Probably an i3-4160. If your G3258 can't handle streaming, the two extra threads provided by an i3 should be enough.

So I tried it out. 720@30 worked fine (that's all I need). The processor was pegged at ~30%. This was with 2 webcams and 8G of ram. I don't think I'll have a problem, but I just need to get a better mic.

On a side note: I pulled out my range extender for a good link. I forgot I still had my USB WiFi stick in, and never hooked the extender to the PC. I only dropped about 50 frames while getting set up, but no errors after that. This should work out well.

Nice! I thought your Pentium might be enough, but knew an i3 would be without a doubt more than enough. Good to hear you won't need to buy a new CPU.
