[TR] [Updated] Report: Dell UP3017Q OLED monitor has been canned - Page 2

OLED is crap? lachen.giflachen.gif

That was a good one tongue.gif

I'll take an OLED tv over any of the top-tier LCD-based models any day of the week. And trust me, I see a lot of them every day in my line of work thumb.gif
post #12 of 105
I'd take one, but I wouldn't buy one. The picture quality increase looks (to my eyes) like a $300 premium, but they charge a $1,500 premium over an LED UHD tv.

There is inherently always going to be Color mismatch due to transition time. The transition time Will never be ZERO.. It will also never even come close to how fast we can BLINK the backlight.

Therefore outside of THIN application.. ULMB/ Light boost/ Clear motion, via backlit led will ALWAYS and FOREVER provide superior motion clarity in the Liquid crystal space..
Um, Oculus and Vive both use OLEDs at 90hz. And Transition time will never be 0 because that would be impossible for any display.

A panel refresh frequency tells you how much time in a second a pixel refresh its state. It has nothing to do with the display input connection.

It's not a good one. He is right: OLED is crap. I learned that from reading the forums on this site. That is why Samsung is skipping OLED and instead developing QLED. OLED is a much inferior version of QLED. I don't mean the fake QLED to which Samsung is apparently rebranding some of its products for 2017 - rather, I mean the real QLED that is self-emitting with no backlighting and that is coming later.

Hopefully all manufacturers will stop making crap OLED products and instead start making quality QLED products. That way is much better for consumers. The news in the OP is a great step in that direction. smile.gif

Contrast and motion clarity are more important in a TV than in a professional/prosumer monitor like the Dell.

So for that kind of monitor for that price, yeah, it kind of is. An LCD with a quantum dot backlight can have a wider color gamut and more consistent viewing angles for alot less money, all without the problems of OLEDs burning out.

I Love OLED screens - have a Huawei Honor Note 8 (which is basically the biggest oled screen phone you can get) - and both me and my wife own a samsung tab pro s laptop (another oled screen)...

Just went to the local electronics store and looked at all the TVs (to dream of what I would like) - Ive always liked samsung TVs but when comparing samsungs qled to LGs oled screens - IMO oled is much better; love the crispness and deep blacks and no backlight much better. Both me and my wife both liked the picture of the oled screen more then then qled that samsung had on display - obviously these were last years model since this year was just on display at ces.
