[TPU] Windows 10 KB3213986 Update Cripples Multi-monitor Gaming

Quote:
The recent Cumulative Update for Windows 10 (KB3213986) cripples multi-monitor gaming, looking at the way Microsoft worded its "known issues" text. After the update is applied, users with multi-monitor setups could experience screen stuttering or clipped screens when running 3D apps on machines with more than one monitor. The only workaround Microsoft suggests for now entails running your 3D apps in non-fullscreen modes, such as windowed-maximized (pseudo-fullscreen) or windowed modes. Microsoft also goes as far as to suggest that people with multi-monitors could try starting their 3D apps with just one monitor connected.

I actually got rid of a dual monitor setup twice because I came across random games that had drastically less performance when running two monitors, even if only rendering on one monitor. Borderlands 1 was one the really came to mind, something like a 80% FPS loss for me when the game first came out.

I'd think these type of issues would be resolved by now but I guess not. Forever single monitor, single GPU. tongue.gif

80% less frames when running two monitors ? I'd say that's a driver bug for sure

Personally I've used dual monitors for over a decade now without any issues

Probably not much, but devs will be pissed if this goes on too long without getting Fixed cause they'll have to deal without the fallout.

nice job microsoft, this is why people wanted to disable windows update. or at the very least let them pick and chose what updates to install.

Which you can do.
Of course you usually won't know something is wrong with an update until you install it. Unless you spend your work time going through MS update notes and wait a month after each update before applying. You might just as well run your own update server with selected updates.
