Storport.sys is causing me issues with the New Samsung 2.1 NVME Drivers with both a 950 Pro on an Z270 board and my X99-E WS/3.1 system. I first noticed on the X99 when I installed the 960Pro 1 TB NVME.
Rolling back to the Microsoft Driver or the 1.1 Drive (Samsugn 1.47.x.x ) on the 950Pro, or the Microsoft drivers for the 960Pro yields the substantially equivelent CrytstalDiskMark results, however, withOUT the DPC spikes.
I first noticed when I updated my X99-E WS/3.1 board from the 950 Pro 512GB to the 960 Pro 1TB.
I loaded the 2.1 drivers for the 960Pro and started having issues with ProTools 12 and CPU spikes.... In my situation, you have $10K audio recording mixing system that becomes non-functional because you can not run more than a minute without the system throwing CPU overload errors due to the latency caused by the driver .
Like I mentioned with the 950 and the Samsung 1.1 drivers or the Windows drivers, the system worked extremely well. So I ran DPC Latency and identified the storport.sys driver was the problem.
To verify, I did a fresh install of W10Pro and only the Samsung 2.1 driver... same problem. I rolled back to the Windows Drivers for the NMVE drive and the DPC spikes went away. I reloaded my base image with all apps, etc... rolled back the driver to the Microsoft driver and no DPC spikes.
I am not sure the benefit of the Samsung Driver at the moment and why it would cause issues vs. the Microsoft; however something is different.
BTW... this individual, (link below), had the same issue. I found this thread only after identifying the Samsung Driver as the cause to the symptom.https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?90287-Asus-Strix-Z270F-high-DPC-storport-sysEdited by yajnssnj - 1/28/17 at 6:48am
