Maximus IX Formula: Only One USB2.0 Header?

So I thought that the IX Formula comes with 2 USB2.0 headers, but I see that the "second" header has 4 pins on top and 5pins on the bottom, making it impossible for a USB2.0 connector to fit.

The manual says that one USB2.0 header is shared with ROG_EXT and a USB2.0 fits in there just fine. It's the 9pin header to the right of it which is a problem. The manual also mentions nothing about it.

Here is a picture:

That's an internal USB port.

You need a cable like one of these for connecting internal or external devices

Aw wow, so I can't just directly connect a USB2.0 connector in there?

It's two USB ports om one socket.

I suppose you could use an adapter. instead of a cable.

What is it that you're trying to do?

you linked USB 3.0/3.1 headers there. USB 2.0 headers look like this -

One of these will fit in the right hand header just fine.

If it's a shared port, it'll probably mean you can either use the USB 2.0 header to the right, OR the ROG_EXT header to the left, but not both at the same time. You choose one or the other.

USB 2.0 and 3.0 both come with either outlet. You just buy what you need.
Any of the above are available for any USB standard.

Here is a picture:

The left header should be for the ROG EXT device while the right header is a regular old 2.0 header with the 9th dummy pin

ROG EXT is the device that comes with the asus maximus viii extreme for overclock and fan control.

I'm trying to use 2 USB 2.0 connectors. But it's ok, I got an NZXT Internal USB Hub and plugged in my Corsair Link and USB2.0 front panel ports. So all is good now =)
