Even better, Penumbra
The same types of games as Amnesia from the same developers (Penumbra and Amnesia inspired almost every modern horror game including Outlast and probably RE7 somewhat), and vaguely similar to Outlast, but with a million times more depth than every game mentioned above. They are some of the deepest and most well written games in the history of the industry.Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason
is another horror game with exceptional writing for this medium.
Oh, and let's not forget Underhell
which is free and like a first-person classic Resident Evil at times. It is such a multidimensional game; it has a hub which is a haunted house, filled with psychological horror and intriguing storytelling. It as a prologue which is a short tactical FPS mission, but the bulk of it is chapter 1 (other chapters yet to be released) which starts off like a first-person classic Resident Evil sort of but with greater freedom of movement, stealth, and much more intricate gameplay, and then turns into a group-based faster paced survival horror game with huge amounts of enemies.Anna: Extended Edition
is a psychological horror game with wonderful, one of a kind visual storytelling.
Resident Evil, in the past, was fun and intense but never had any real depth. The same for Outlast. These games might pleasantly surprise you.
