new card for 1200p?

Right now in BF1 I average about 50-70fps at ultra

My Monitor is a Dell Ultrasharp 24" IPS 1920x1200 60hz.

I assume the current gen pascal is enough to run 1200p at ultra, so I dont need to wait for volta/vega..

With that said, which card should i upgrade to to get the absolute most of this monitor? 1070? 1080? or is my 970 enough at 1200p that an upgrade would go unnoticeable?

Also, is my stock i7 920 also holding anything back? if so, which of a new vid card or new cpu would be most beneficial, or both?

Thanks

Run afterburner while playing and have cpu and gpu usage set up to show on the OSD. Like in my video here

https://youtu.be/0jm3jsnsbQY

It should tell you what is holding you back.

At a mix of medium/high my daughters rig (i5-4570/GTX 970) maintains 80-90 fps easily in BF1 at 1440p. I'd wait, if it were me, to see what Vega and next gen Nvidia cards have to offer. Dialing down settings a bit are a lot cheaper than paying for a marginal upgrade. Just my personal opinion.

ok so I ran afterburner (i have no idea what all the #'s mean.. cpu1 vs cpu2 vs cpu3, etc) so i selected them all.

my fps runs between 50-70fps

my cpu usage ranges from about 60-75%, sometimes hitting 95% on afterburner, and ranges 58-60% constantly on task manager

my gpu usage ranges from 80-98% on afterburner

my power (whatever that means) ranges between 75-90%

any thoughts on what i should upgrade to get a higher fps?

and bonus question, at 1920x1200p on a 24" monitor, would i even notice a diff between 60fps and 120fps?

Holy crap that cpu is hot! Better see why it is running that warm, Heatsink plugged, fan die? Fan header on mobo die? Terrible case airflow? I thought 80c was the general guideline for max temp. Are you sure you are running at stock?

I am a little surprised that cpu usage wasn't higher - how many players were in the servers you played on?

EDIT : just tried a 64 player st quentin map - have the same monitor as you do ( dell ultra sharp) 1200p FX 8 core at 4.8 ghz 780ti ultra settings if i get a chance I'll graph fps.

hmm.. I've never OC'd my cpu

anything i can check to make sure my cpu is set stock? 90C+ does seem very hot.

download cpu z and see what the clockspeed nad voltages are

Time to clean the heatsink or filters on the case or repaste remount the cooler......I dunno much about the 920 to be honest though . Maybe ask around in the intel forums about temps

EDIT: In reviewing my graphs for 64 player game fps with this rig at 1200p my 780ti usually averages around 90 fps on ultra. The 970 should be pretty close to the 780ti I'd think so that leaves the cpu as being the culprit. Those old 920's were wonderful overclockers and if you end up needing to replace the HSF anyway, you should consider upgrading the cooling to somthing that would allow for some higher clocks. Even if you topped out at 3.7 or so, thats a huge percentage overclock.... any how- good luck to you!

So the fact that my CPU is running at 95-100C could cause it to throttle down and in turn lower my fps
