The time has come to upgrade my overclocked i7 2600k
I already have a few SSD's and a 8gb GTX 1070 so I will be reusing these
I already have a corsair 800D as well and all the water cooling parts

I wanted to overclock this to 4.1 or 4.2ghz on air and keep it semi quite my current water build is a bit loud and it's going over 4 years on my same pump ect and it's showing it's age in some games
60fps in cso go when i live stream

I'm really open to motherboard and case and power supply

I have a 1500 budget for everything
I will be reusing the GTX 1070 %100 and %100 all my SSD's I have a 1tb ssd and a 256 ssd and 128ss and a 3tb 7200 drive so no issues there

Also I was going to clean my loop and sell my ram, board and water cooling and case whats a fair price.

I would just go for a 6800k and save the extra money. The only difference is pci lanes. If you truly needed 40 pci lanes, you also need to be on a xeon platform with more than 6 cores.

I'v read streaming on a 6 core system is way smother than i7 quad cores, so I would go with a 6800k or even a 5820k. The 6850k is just a ripoff for what it is.

Whats a good motherboard in the X99 series I don't play to run more then 16gb was doing 4 x 4 so I can go quad channel

I liked the MSI FTW but it has so many bad reviews on Amazon
I'm not a a fan of anything ASUS have had 4 + dead board from them. I will never buy there motherboard products
I do like Asrock I know it's Asus but just leaves a bad taste in my mouth

Note that the Noctua NH-D15 will come very close to the top PCI-E slot and might even block it on some motherboards
If you pick the NH-D15S instead you get some more room

And the RAM you picked are gimmicky and way overprcied, pick a Kingston HyperX Savage kit instead as its better and cheaper
Last is the PSU which is way overkill unless you have plans for 3x video cards, the 550 watt G3 is more then enough for that system as it is and if you want room for SLI the 650 watt is more then enough

Why is the motherboard listed twice?
As for the motherboard take a look at the Gigabyte X99 Ultra Gaming (look at the system under my sig)

Thats strange as Kingston is cheaper here
Anyway Kingston is more reliable and they also look better if you ask for my personal opinion.

4 the Gigabyte X99 Ultra Gaming

Also how high have you clocked it?
I did not have any problems with and i have not overclocked anything.

Now that I'm home from work, I'll try to help with the build. I'v built several x99 rigs now and will try to explain some.

First, I highly suggest going with a 6800k since it's the same as a 6850k with a few less pci lanes and costs nearly $200 less. Theres no way you will be using 40 pci lanes with the use you have posted and its just throwing away $200 for nothing. Even if you went for SLI, you wont be bottlenecked by available pci lanes on a 6800k. Achieveing 4.1-4.2Ghz on a 6800k should be easy unless you get extremely unlucky in the silicon lotery.

You could save even more on CPU by going with a 5820k which will be neck and neck with a 6800k. The 5820k I had easily overclocked to 4.5 on air and beat out my 6800k that couldnt go over 4.1 in benchmarks.

The memory you posted links to are very over priced too. Most 3000mhz 16gb (2x8) ddr4 sets run for $100. Quad channel vs. dual channel performance tests shows there is less than a 1% difference. You can run dual channel on x99 and you would never know the difference, even in benchmarks. Running dual channel will also put less stress on the IMC and may help achieve better overclocking results.

If you still want to go with a quad channel setup, do yourself a favor and spend the extra $20-40 and get a 32Gb (4x8) set instead of those 16gb sets you linked.

For motherboard, I would try something from MSI. I'v used the Asus x99-a USB3.1 and it was fine, but the x99 Strix in my sig rig is out for RMA after it killed my CPU last week. There is also multiple other reports of this happening on Asus x99 boards with thei "OC socket". Because of this, I would avoid them. I don't trust Asrock boards after experience with them in the past.

For PSU, I personally like the Corsair RM850 if you can get it on sale for $100 or less. It is compleyely silent operation because your system will never pull enough power for the fan to kick in. But there is plenty of cheaper options out there that would work just as well, so get whatever you like.

Hope you mean the RMx or RMi as the old RM are kind of rubbish
And the EVGA SuperNova G2/G3 are a better option

I went with a 6800k at first and ended up selling it and going to a 6850K. If you for sure are never going to go dual gpu then its a good option. The PCIe lanes get taken extremely quick when you start throwing in the M.2 SSDs that are 4 x PCIe etc. I know you are not using them right now, but as long as you stayed on that 2600k, it could become a problem for you down the road. Just a thought.

Otherwise the 6800k I had performed very well.

Yes I waited in line to get the i7 2600k at Micro Center I was the 9th person in line they had 12 cpu's
The line was full of virgins it was one of the happiest days of my life.
Been running like a champ under water but it's time for an upgrade as I can't play hi res games and stream with it now.

LOL. It wasnt intended as an insult. It was just an observation. Great reply though.

Honestly I dont think I would put much cash into an X99 board now as there should be a replacement chipset coming out soon. The new socket is supposed to span at least three chips, Skylake, Kaby Lake and Cannonlake. As much as I like my Sabertooth X99 board, I will probably upgrade to the newer board when released if it is indeed compatible. Its not likely, but im not afraid to move on to Skylake X either. Im still waiting to see the pricing. If you can wait, perhaps wait and see when the new chipset and X drops. As usual though, we do not know when that is. But I doubt you will be disappointed with an X99 and 6800K or 6850K. I know I haven't been disappointed.

I was hoping maybe sooner with Kaby Lake being released 2nd Qtr 2016. it is already overdue IMO.

My 6850K will OC to 4.5 but most of the time I run it at 4.4 as the jump in voltage isnt worth that extra little bit of clock speed to me. 4.5 MHz is where the voltage wall seems to be on the few Broadwell E chips I have played with to date.

the 6800k vs 6850k they are not the same . if we look historically :/ usually will have higher chance of getting a better chip with 6850k than 6800k I mean overclocking .
i really doubt that intel do in their binning process cherry pick 6850k's and the one's that fail to reach these specs they reshape them as 6800k so there is less chance to overcock higher there, but most lilkey they bin them down due the inability to handle the 40pcie lanes not the overclocking abilities ( also what gave me hint on this is the fact they are clocked differently out of the box )

its just a thought came to my mind wanted to share.

but honestly this is all just a theory for a posiiblity (chance to get lower overclocking cpu ) which means nothing in real world purchase decision in my opinion.

if u need to save money buy 6800k or put the extra $ somewhere else.
otherwise why risk it .

will look forward for ur build/upgrade post with lots of pictures .
