Im also going to have to use a DP adapter from the GPU end. Cable needs to go upstairs to tv, but hdmi port on the GPU is occupied by the Vive. There will be no cable switching. So far in my venture Im at a loss, starting to feel this is not possible without a fortune in which case ill buy one of dem fancy xbox scorpios this fall which somehow claim native 4k60.

Can yall help a brother out?
I believe there is a GPU that allows VR headset plugin from the front of the card instead of the rear IO. If you got your hands on one of those you could free up that rear HDMI port. Just thinking out of the box and trying to come up with a solution that doesn't involve an adapter. I honestly cannot remember which GPU or even which camp it comes from though. Are you still using the GPUs in your sig rig?

All I can think of for now. wink.gif

can you just use a DP to hdmi adapter for VR and use the free hdmi 2.0 gpu spot for the long hdmi cord? or does VR need hdmi 2.0 as well?

I was wondering the same but assuming that has to be the case otherwise he would just be using DP. I forget what my 290x had in the rear overall to work with as I didn't have it very long.

Edit:

Found the GPU it is an EVGA 980Ti VR Edition but I don't think that is a realistic solution without wasting alot of money. https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Geforce-GAMING-Access-06G-P4-3996-KR/dp/B01AZC4D8M

yes you can use the DP port for the Vive but what would be the point op would still need an adapter?

OP what GPU are you using?

The cable I linked earlier doesn't explicitly guarantee but does claim to support full 4k@60Hz 4:4:4 Color. Copper hdmi cables aren't guaranteed to work for those specs over a length of 6ft. The wires are too small, which increases impedance and causes signal loss.

What about DP adapters, will I need an active adapter to carry the signal?

Monoprice sells HDMI cables capable of 4K 60fps 444 up to 40'. They work great and I have 2 of them in use at my house. I also use one of their 75' fiber cables and it too works great.

The problem you will run into is entirely on the adapter side. While I haven't looked much, I dont know of any adapters so far that will convert DP to HDMI and support 4k 60fps, and 444, and HDCP2.2. You will need an adapter that is at least DisplayPort 1.3 or higher, otherwise you dont get HDCP2.2 support. It is probably going to be a lot easier to get a new graphics card that has multiple HDMI2.0 outputs.

EDIT: This one says it supports everything you need:
https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-HDMI-2-0a-Active-Adapter/dp/B01B6ZOMIS

According to the chip specs listed on the manufacturer website it does indeed support what you want:
http://www.paradetech.com/products/displayport-format-converters/ps176/
Whether it works in the real world IDK but it *should*. So I guess these adapters do exist now biggrin.gifthumb.gif

Jitter cleaning PLL provides stable HDMI output signal with wide compliance margin
HDCP 1.4 and HDCP 2.2 repeater function with on-chip keys

Any chance you'd share a link to something that's worked for you? I've had a heck of a hard time finding cables capable of 4K@60Hz, with HDR and 4:4:4 chroma subsampling support, that can push the bandwidth at 25 feet. I have a 6' cable running from my receiver directly to the side of my TV right now, but I want to run stuff in-wall to minimize the clutter smile.gif

I'v already been down this road in the search for a 25'. I bought a 20' monoprice certified premium cable, and it does 4k@60 4:4:4 without any issues.

The chances of getting something longer to work is very hit or miss.

I recently purchased a 35ft Monster Black Platinum HDMI cable on eBay for $50 that I use to connect my 1080Ti to my 4KTV. I'm pretty happy with it. I don't notice any input lag while gaming. Worth trying for yourself.
