We've been here before. Windows 10 users have already been spammed with full-screen Tomb Raider ads, pop-up ads for the firm's rewards programme, and nag screens that try to get Chrome and Firefox users to switch to Microsoft's own Edge browser.
The firm is once again setting its sights on Google Chrome users, with a new pop-up advertisement pestering users of the browser to install its Shopping Assistant add-on.
As spotted by Myce, when the browser is pinned to the taskbar, a notification above the Chrome icon begs: "Quickly compare prices online. Get Microsoft's Personal Shopping Assistant for Chrome."
could be a icon shortcut take over. had some program that got installed do that before. program would still start up but have an ad pop up or the front page be a site. usually to fix you just delete the shortcut and make another.
I did install something way back when I installed windows 10, I can't remember what it was though. I don't use Chrome and haven't used Edge except for when I used it to download Firefox.
already read another article which, unlike this one, tells ya that turning off the "get fun facts tips tricks and what not" in settings>personalization>lockscreen resolves the "issue"

I'm sure Win10 out of the box will do stuff like this but once you actually dive into the settings and disable all that crap you won't see it. No need for pitchforks here..
I got some weird Tomb Raider ad on my lock screen once (before I downloaded the windows tweaker tool and removed as much bloat as I could). Really strange.
I also got these weird links about and pop ups about how MS Edge was "faster" than X browser I was installing, or how it was better for battery life.
Annoying, obnoxious, unwanted, invasive - soon to be uninstalled.
Not quite sure which windows version I'm going to go back to yet. Trusty 7 or maybe try my luck with 8.1 when I'm not using linux.
W10 beta just not worth it yet. Maybe when they get the ten thousand kinks worked out, or stop using their consumer base as beta testers for unfinished products.

I haven't had any of the ads mentioned in the op, not saying they dont exist, I just havent come across them (been using since the technical preview). The worst I've had were the suggestions in the start menu, but I was able to remove those with a setting.

Can't say I have any real issues with it, I got Windows 10 for free and if the price to pay for that is 5 minutes during initial setup in group policy/settings disabling this and telemetry then it seems like a reasonable cost.
