OMEN X by HP 35 Curved Gaming Display with NVIDIA G-SYNC Thread - Page 65

Lol the majority of people who complain about washed out colors are mostly people who didnt even calibrated the monitor themselves and stuck with ICC profiles while the ones who did are more satisfied with it. If ICC profiles are working better on the IPS monitors then just stick with them.

for a $1000-$1300 monitor the colors should not be washed out. it is not only the colors but the viewing angles; i cannot get my head into position without parts of the screen being desaturated. my panel has silver glow in black images which makes the higher contrast redundant in my eyes.

even if i did calibrate with a tool (if i could rent one) the viewing angles are too limited for a screen this size. i have seen other va panels with better viewing angles.

I am glad you like yours. with these high end monitors each one has their own flaws. there are no perfect monitors.

Agreed 100%. 2000:1 contrast ratio means nothing if it doesn't actually apply to the entire viewing area when viewing head on. I also was bothered by a shimmering effect due to the viewing angles. As was TFTCentral.

The contrast of this panel is pathetic for a VA panel. It'll help a bit during dark scenes but otherwise it's nearly a moot point and really nobody should be buying this monitor based off the extra contrast alone. If people prefer the more vibrant colors of the IPS ultrawides that's totally cool, but the tradeoff for me isn't worth it because whenever I played any games that had dark scenes the 1000:1 contrast combined with IPS glow completely ruined the experience and I wasn't going to trade off better colors only to have all my dark scenes look like crap. This monitor at least allows both bright colorful scenes and darker scenes to look "decent". Of course if you only play games that always have bright colors on the screen then the IPS is going to be better monitor for you absolutely. As it's been said before, it's all about preference.

we could say

VA Panel

Pro
No BLB or very very low
Better contrast

Contra
Bad view angle
Less vibrant color
Slower panel

IPS Panel

PRO
Vibrant colors
Faster Panel

Contra

BLB ips glow
Worse contrast

I had an IPS from Eizo before this and I'm satisfied with that Omen, but I've not tried the Rog, so i can't compare them side by side, I can only do it with the Eizo FS2332.

I will try the x34P when it will be awailable and decide to keep or not the Omen, the perfect thing will be

34" IPS QDOT 144hz GSYNC

I don't expect to see something like that soon..

i would take a 34-35" UW IPS G-sync 100+ hz that did not look like it was designed by teenagers.

Man, I'll say it again. I've never in my life seen people so desperately trying to justify and rationalize a purchase that has been proven to be so flawed, and even confirmed as such by the manufacturer.

Repacked the monitor and...the stand is has partial cosmetic damage due to faulty parts when I attempted to reattach the height bar.

I hope Amazon does not deduct any of my refund amount. the hdmi port is non-functioning and I had plans on using it with HDMI cable occasionally, so the product is defective.

Lol this thread is hilarious. Someone just make an omen OWNERS thread. So that the ones who get off by coming here hating on the monitor can find another thread to play with themselves. We get it you don't like the monitor. Awesome! Some people do asus pg thread not popping? X34 thread not LIT like this one? Haha Please someone just make an owners thread. Problem solved

Also run thru those other two threads and count how many have been returned. Lol

I think discussion between differing viewpoints is always a positive thing. And as far as "Should make an owner's thread", don't forget even the naysayers were owners once. I might agree that the panel is not ideal compared to the alternatives but I accept that people prioritize certain things differently. Omen X35 isn't ALL negative guys. Just keep it cool here.

The best thing this thread can provide to a new reader is a realistic insight into how to make a purchasing decision. That means everybody saying the Omen is the best monitor ever need to get a reality check. That means others saying the Omen has NO value need a reality check. The truth is somewhere inbetween.
I'll reiterate what I've posted previously: if you prioritize slightly higher contrast ratios then get the Omen or AOC panel. If you prioritize color reproduction and viewing angles get the Asus or Acer ultrawide panel.

Anyway, I have a few thoughts about the flickering issue:

The more research I've done, the more I believe this is a GSync issue when used in conjunction with a TN or VA type panel, due to pixel refresh speed. That's why the IPS guys are like "I don't know what you're talking about with flickering", because IPS handles it slightly differently, so there is no noticeable flicker.

That said, I don't consider flickering as much a deal breaker anymore since I think it's just a concession you have to make if using GSync with this type of panel. It's still enough to make me personally consider alternatives, but I don't think this is a problem caused by a defective or poorly designed panel.

...Unless somebody can do a Freesync test with another VA panel and test the same menus to verify smile.gif that would tell us for certain
