Crosfire rx480 - Page 5

Yes I would say so. It looks like your core percentages are fairly moderate compaired to your GPU usage. So that's not terrible performance for those modern titles running on decently priced hardware.

Sucks about the multimonitor and freesync issues, but I'm glad you got it somewhat working! IDK about your frame counter, I don't think I've used that one before and it doesn't seem to show the 2nd GPU. Do you have any software that can log your clock speeds and utilization over time? You could run it in the background then check to see that the 2nd card was under load. You could also check if you're CPU bottle necked.

Everything seems to be working great now. I can run Doom, CSGO, and Rise of the Tomb Raider on Ultra Settings at 4k with playable frame rates. The latest Doom Patch was supposed to give support to crossfire, but whether crossfire is enabled or disabled I don't see any performance gain/loss. I have seen a few videos on youtube of rx480 crossfire running Doom. The counter on their screen doesn't show a 2nd gpu either. I can notice an increase in performance on CSGO at 4k with crossfire enabled however. So, I know its working. It goes to show you, that this old rig can run 8 gb rx480 cards in crossfire after all! Just have to fiddle around with AMD drivers for a couple days... 1440p seems to be the way to go in most games. My frame rates crush the ones I was getting with my single 3gb 7950 I had prior to the upgrade. Thanks all for the support! Hopefully this is my last troubleshooting post.

Yay! I'm glad you got it sorted. Sorry it was more of a headache than I made you believe at the beginning.

Now you just a 3rd 480, then to discover you need more pcie bandwidth to make full use of it, then a dive into 2011. Or maybe Naples will have a good workstation offering with lots of pcie and high clock speeds!

I built a new rig.

Windows 10 Home 64 bit
MSI X370 Gaming Plus mobo
AMD Ryzen 1700x
Corsair DDR4 16GB 3000MHZ
2x RX480 8GB (in crossfire)
Rosewill 850 w bronze PSU
250 GB WD SSD

New System, same 2 gpus. I have the latest bios for mobo, and the latest 17.7.1 gpu drivers.
Everything works great with Crossfire disabled. My problem is with crossfire enabled. The few games I play that actually use crossfire (Far Cry Primal, and Rise of the Tomb Raider) either crash after a few minutes of gameplay, or reboot my entire pc. I play in 4k, with all settings maxed. My frames are 30-50 fps in both games, and it feels smooth. I have also been monitoring with MSI Afterburner with Riva Tuner Statistics. My gpu's both show to get to 100 percent usage, and from 100 watts to 120 watts of power consumption. I read that AMD transferred some of the power from the 6 pin connectors to the PCIE slots on the mobo. Is it just that my mobo cannot handle the power to the pcie slots?

I am planning on selling these 2 cards and replacing with the new Vega GPU that comes out later this month, but from the bitcoin mining craze, it may be awhile before I can even buy a vega card. I may be stuck with these cards for longer than I want, and it would be nice to use them. (As I was typing this last sentence, my cpu restarted on its own again...)

I was getting kernel power 41. I just ran ddu and reinstalled latest radeon drivers again. I set both cards power -10%. So far so good, but doesn't seem right that I should have to lower power on them.

Found a solution. Sold both rx480s for more than I paid for due to the bitcoin craze. Buying new vega gpu when it comes out at end of the month.

Ha. I was going to suggest that after I reads your previous post. Did you end up getting a Vega? I waited on the edge of my seat for Vega for like a year... then on launch day I was so disappointed with price/performance/availability that I ordered a 1080 ti instead. I hear Vega crossfire doesn't work yet (but they're working on it?)

A little late to the party, but did you ever try turning ULPS off? I added a 3rd RX480 to my rig recently and kept having issues whenever I played a game or ran a benchmark. Then I remembered to check ULPS and turned it off. No problems since.
