[Kotaku] Zelda: Breath of the Wild to have a season pass and DLC

You know times are strange when even Zelda games are getting season passes, and here we are. Nintendo announced today that Breath of the Wild will get two pieces of downloadable content throughout 2017, and to buy them both, you’ll need to get the Zelda expansion pass.

This expansion pass will be $20 and come with two DLC packs. One will add a hard mode and a Cave of Trials (like Twilight Princess) while the other will add “a new dungeon and a new original story.” The whole package will also let Link wear a shirt with a Switch logo on it, for some reason. And you can’t purchase any of these packs individually, Nintendo says. It’s either $20 or nothing.

Yup, read it and cried a bit.

I then asked "Where in the Hell are they going to store it?" The Switch only has 32 GB and SD cards have endurance issues, incoming corrupted saved data or entire "expansions".

EDIT:

Back for more Nintendo ripping!

Another clear sign that Nintendo has no idea what they are doing and that there is an internal struggle between the old and the new at Nintendo HQ.

The Switch was not designed from a hardware perspective to really support a DLC environment, the internal storage just isn't there. Yet here they are making a move into that sort of ecosystem and they aren't equipped to do it. As it sits they are going to be extremely limited on the DLC content due to storage constraints, which in that case you immediately take a value hit to the DLC. Or you are relegating your players to have to rely on an external HDD/SSD in order to take advantage of the product fully.

So now the "mobile console" consists of....

  • Tablet
  • Left Joycon
  • Right Joycon
  • Joycon Grip
  • Dock
  • Charging cable
  • AC Adapter
  • + Nintendo accessories.

You then need to add to that, based off what we know....

  • SD cards and cases
  • External storage for all this new DLC
  • External battery
  • The VW Bus from the Switch commercial to haul all your crap in.

Oh, and don't forget about the rumored "Power Adder" for extra GPU capacity (don't think this will actually come to market)

What does this all add up to in cost? It is nuts!

All the other game developers are making absolute bank with DLC and cash shop sales. Nintendo would be losing money if they don't do the same thing.

Not this crap Nintendo. I hope if it does have dlc it doesn't sell well.
I'm just getting the Switch, play Zelda, sell the console and game cheap to my nephew, view the dlc content played by someone in Youtube, wait till next Nintendo console and Zelda game in a few years, profit (?.
Surely, this is how Nintendo dies.
I haven't paid for DLC in my entire life and won't, not even for Zelda. If it where only skins or anything cosmetic I wouldn't really care to be honest, but extra content DLC and Amiibos? next thing you know they will try to shoehorn microtransactions too.... plaese don't become EA or Ubisoft Nintendo!

They would be dumb to not offer dlc. Lets just hope they do season passes right. 20 dollars for 2 dlc installments is a good way to start.
