What board to buy - Page 2

For now I was holding my CPU at 1,24V at 4.0Ghz. I was advised that MSI 970 Carbon or Asus M5A99X EVO would be better than Aura, that on these board I would not need to put a fan on VRM. I was also thinking of seeling all this and go to Ryzen. Would Ryzen 5 1300 (4/8 cores/threads) be much better than this FX?

Definitely Ryzen will be better. Go with that if you can. The MSI 970 board has problems with QC, it's otherwise about the same or slightly worse as the ASUS Aura, except when it has those problems. The 990FX ASUS board you mentioned is slightly better than the AURA, but is significantly more expensive. I wouldn't sink a lot of money into the FX platform when it's obsolete at this point.

How much perfomance increase with that Ryzen model can I expect compared to FX at 4,4ghz? More than 20%? If perfomance increase is lower than it really isn`t worth it...

40% better IPC, and a number of other things like the high latency of FX and having half the effective cores in FX for floating point won't be there.

Will I also see increase in SSD speed (Kindston HyperX)? I think I read long time ago that Am3+ platform can limit speed of SSD. I will probably wait for the test then go to 1300 model. It should be more than enough for 1080p gaming.

If you have SATA3, SATA3 SSDs should perform fine. I haven't heard about AM3+ doing that with recent AMD chipsets. On the other hand, m.2 PCIE NVME drives sometimes (but not always) have interfaces that currently only work on Intel boards; I bet Ryzen's chipsets will support them too. (Incidentally, 970 Pro Gaming/Aura has an m.2 slot...)

First Ryzen, m.2 in the future:) I will need to sell also my Cpu cooler, Cooler master doesn`t provide mounting kit for AM4. I hope that stock cooler will be fine, my budget won`t be enough for other solution right away.

Edit: it doesn't look like your CM cooler is one of the ones they're supporting... Sorry...

Just one point. I believe the days of the quad core cpu's are ending as new games are pushing them to their limits right now today. Overall FX is just as good as the quads in modern games. If you go with Ryzen, then a 6 or 8 core cpu should be your goal for the best futureproofing.

Bummer about that cooler. It is an interesting design that didn't live up to the hype.

Depends upon *which* of today's games, I can only think of one or two that performs as good on FX. Of course, if both are around 60fps and you're playing 1080p60fps.... I do think Ryzen will be terrific though, but because it has improved per-thread performance that will put a nail in the coffin for FX's lackluster IPC and single-threaded. There will be no need for games to take into account the FX's performance characteristics with Ryzen out there.

Edit: There is an interesting rumor: AMD plans on continuing to make FX for a bit, but at a much lower price, and this was the reason for Intel making the KL Pentiums that are hyperthreaded. So in any event, it will pay to wait, even if you want FX.
