Kiss Tax Returns goodbye...Better start thinking of the good excuse to tell the wife on why you are building a new system...not that we really need it, but it's backlash from not being willing to pay Intel's monopoly premium for 6+ years.

You can always use her excuse, "It was on sale!" Look...normally an 8 core costs over $1000 dollars. "It's just over $500",

while she stares at you and you know you got her nailed to the wall with her own reasoning.

Promise to buy her something nice when you part out your old rig. And hope she knows what "part out" means.

This is complex. I refinanced the house and for some reason there is no house payment this month. She already has a new dining room table and a new couch picked out. Next is painting the house. This could work out really well later on for me.

Sadly for me no excuse will work. She hates my computer and games, ive got her this far though that id never stop it and its my passion she kind of gave up complaining about it lol. Im upgrading things fast enough as it is. Last september we went to ny from belgium and was like ''look a gtx 1070'' its 100€ cheaper than in europe i got away with it

On top of that taxes came in and i need to cough up 1000€

If you have nice couch and don't mind sleeping on it for a few nights, just go ahead and make the purchase. An electric blanket and/or warm hound dog helps with this during the winter months as well.

Also, hide any breakable electronic items you might have in case she rages when she checks the bank account (speaking from experience here).

Excuse? No excuse needed! If bills are fine, there is no pressing need for the money and it's been a few years since the last upgrade...Do it!

My wife and I have a very give/take relationship and each year we divide up the tax return... And then throughout the year as I buy gaming stuff or PC stuff or Lego stuff (I love Legos) she wants a manicure, more makeups, whatever.

It's worked well for us for 14 years.

Edit: Also.. you could buy it and then when it arrives and you're questioned, show her Colbert.

lie and say you fixed the cat/dog with your rebate and never let her know what's going on inside the case.

Hi honey, yes, our dog now follows AVX2 instructions, and the cat fits AM4 so it now sits in it.

November of last year, I was blessed with the news of my wife being pregnant. Our baby girl is due around August of this year
biggrin.gif

I was very happy, and VERY HAPPY, until the Do's and the don'ts, stop. quit came out my wife's mouth. For example
baby = no more toys for me, I needed to give up smoking (been a smoker for 18 years) , spend more time at home ( I own a small business and work 70-80 hrs a week) and save save save.

Then it hit me I had to make some major sacrifices She was using our unborn child as leverage!!!!! Almost all of her points were valid.. I was powerless..... I had to do something.... I had to act fast...... and then it happened. I went All In.
Smoking was the only leverage I had, even though I've promised myself that I would quit when we have a baby. I came clean with one of my secret stash. A paypal account with over $2000.00 from my Fantasy football winnings. I got her to agreein writing on a 4K TV, a full computer build and a new monitor.

Don't make excuses.
Sacrifice and negotiate

That's exactly why I struck a deal with mine rather than just do it anyways or not do it at all. It's a win-win and both parties are happy.
