Looks great, will see whether it will live up to the expectations. However I doubt I will be picking it up on release, not too keen on some of the new features.

Yes they did.

I have high hopes for the game, despite somersaulting Terminators and a strangely vibrant color scheme. What I'm hoping is that it pushes sc2 around a bit, Blizzard has gotten complacent in that genre and needs some competition.

I actually like the more vibrant and colour rich scheme. Wasn't a big fan of the grey-toned darker colour scheme of the previous instalments.

I doubt this game is a direct competitor to SC2, plus I dont think Blizzard cares that much about SC2 to implement any new major changes or features, the game is reaching the end of its lifecycle.

Weird, I prefer the grim dark color scheme but having vibrant colors is hardly something I'd hold against the game. I'm sure there will be a sweetfx or client side texture mods to deal with that.

From my understanding, DoW 3 is going to be a direct competitor, they even went as far as to give Eldar protoss shields instead of actual holofields. Sega is focusing on making iot highly competitive.

I wouldn't say sc2 is nearing the end of its life cycle, they had a major overhaul patch to make terran mech viable which helped breathe new life into the game and co-op is a very strong focus at the moment. Blizzard is definitely shifting gears though, the lead dev was allocated to Heroes as well as retaining his sc2 position.

Grim and dark colour schemes while atmospheric tend to be very boring after a certain period of time, the look becomes monotonous. Dawn of War 3 does a good job at having colours and nice lighting while not looking childish like SC2 and pertains seriousness, brutality and realistic graphical portrayal of units, buildings and maps.

SC2 became stale and was transformed into a money milking game after Heart of The Swarm. It rarely gets patched and if it does the patches are rather insignificant in terms of content and actual game improvements. All the did for the past few months is add DLC mission packs and commanders for CO-OP which cost real money. SC2 and its scene are dead to me but at least I have great memories of the game back when WOL was around.

I never really cared for dawn of war II. Game felt too shallow with out the base buidling, but i hear they're bringing that back. (same goes for company of heroes) I've been itching to play a new RTS, even playing a touch of warcraft 3 recently. The RTS team at blizzard is gona make something though, now that they're finished with the SC2 nova stories. Hopefully it's warcraft 4.

This games art style looks awesome, I'm not sure why it gets hate. I only wish it had a bit more visual clarity. Will probably pick this up.

The colors get "hate" because Warhammer 40k color schemes go one of 2 ways

Grimdark or slightly cartoony solid color schemes.

A lot of people prefer the Grimdark though I don't know anyone who's sane that is so focused on it they'd consider not buying DoW 3 for that reason alone.

Dawn of War 2 definitely had strategic depth in terms of the unit customization and positional flanking...though thanks to some shoddy balance there's a whole lot of "not viable" mixed in with the viable.

The thing that Irks me most about DoW3 is the scaling of things, the same was done in SC universe. If I want a Titan on the battlefield I want a Guddamn TITAN, oh how I want an "Epic 40k" game to be brought out but till then. It always annoyed me in SC that the Terran Battlecruisers were always portrayed as being so small until in cutscenes. Having all these Units on the field at once pretty much kicks the argument about the colour tone out of the water because the unit styles are cartoony with regards to unit size.

Looking forwards to it but dissapointed by what I see so far, especially with the "Return to DoW1" style as mentioned.

Slightly off-topic but there is a custom game in SC2 now with all the units in the correct size. Once you have scrolled out to fit a Battle Cruiser in the screen you can forget to see most units on the ground

I bet that's a sight to see.

I can understand why they do it, I personally think it just detracts from the overall theme of the game though, I don't mind exact unit sizes but trying to tell people that a Mile-long vehcle is just longer than a human makes everything not only look odd but ruins the old RTS idea of "Super Units".

Ooh I miss the old Command and Conquer, I agree that we need more RTS' out there that're any good. Funnily enough I still have 'grey goo' in my backlog, it's going to be the first game I play on my new PC build but by the time I get to that, might not be supported on the new OS' xD

Gross. The first was amazing and then they somehow screwed up the second one, along with a boring as heck storyline.

I agree with some here in that I didn't care for DOW2. Felt too much like WC3 which was already like six years old by this point. What was aggravating was that COH had all these cool terrain deformations, where artillery would create a crater you could then use for cover, or use a vehicle or wreckage from one that had been destroyed as cover. Using buildings as forward bases to produce units and a multitude of other new and honestly still unique aspects; I expected Relic to double down on these concepts in DOW2. But almost none of that made it forward into DOW2.

While I don't have much hope for seeing it in DOW3, it certainly looks like the return to a standard RTS format, which thank god, because I want massive 40k battles. Managing two or three squads just seems anemic and scaled back given the power computers possess in the modern era. DOW1 remains my all time favorite RTS and anything that can get us back to that standard is welcome in my book.

I'm... rather baffled.

the community lives on with the elitemod. but all that 'cool' COH stuff is still there 8 years later.

Pre-orderd this. 3153 hours spent on Dawn of War 2 and its expansions, I hope for just as many spent on this.
