Have a strange issue. When I transfer files over wifi on my laptop to an SMB share on my FreeNAS box I get about 10-15mbs. But, if I run iperf to the same box I get around 120Mbs. I am on Arch with the laptop. I have noticed I can have multiple streams, each at around that 10-15mbs going to the server. They stack right up. I am seeing similar issues both directions.
My assumption is a config issue with Samba. But I could be way off.
Think I may have solved it. Took the DD-WRT I had on my router off and flashed the factory firmware back on. Reset to defaults and put it back in bridge/AP mode. Not sure why this was an issue all of the sudden on DD-WRT when it used to work fine. Also not sure why only my laptop was affected. Need to do more testing but iperf gets 150-200mbs both ways now and file transfers are about the same. Strange.
Considering that DD-WRT is what it is, it's most likely just the result of a glitch in the code. Still, I am curious what little mistake caused a reduction of that magnitude.
No, but I was using ntopng on my pfsense box and isolating traffic going over the wifi. Nothing unusual or heavy. Just a few Kbs for the most part. I did most of my testing when most the WiFi devices were off the network besides test items. Barely any traffic at all on the AP. It's like something in DD-WRT was not playing nice with SMB between Arch and FreeNAS. My wife's laptop functioned fine over SMB. I am still scratching my head over this one.
