Will You Be Building A New RyZen Rig. What Have You Decided On??

The hype for me now is building nice. Leaks showing drawing/beating various Intel parts and dominating for the equivalent price's. My sig rig has been running now since early 2010
redface.gif
and though i have upgraded a few bits it is long in the tooth for sure now
biggrin.gif
.

Been watching MoBo's being leaked and have to say i'm NOT a fan of the "Fast & Furious" RGB rubbish most have tbh. if i had to choose something **prior** to review day i would go for the following:

ASUS X370 PRIME PRO.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700.

Corsair 32GB Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz RAM 2x 16GB.

Will be taking the rest of my sig rig over so will just need to buy the above to get my "fix". I use my rigs for years (as you can tell
tongue.gif
) so will be looking for 8Core/16Threads for longevity imho. Thought i would go for 32GB over the 16GB i would have done for the same reason (longevity). This rig was for 1080p and although my SONY is still working fine when it needs to be replaced it will be with a 4K (probably a Samsung HDR model) TV. Though i will need a new GPU between then as this R9 390 ain't HDMI 2.0
mad.gif
.

I will be running the 1700 at stock until i need to OC (taking advantage of the 65W TDP...... Rather than my 1055T's probably over 200W!!) and hope that when it is time to OC my H110 will do the "business" and allow a reasonable OC. Thought i would go for 3200Mhz DDR4 as i figure (if as in the past) AMD CPU's that i have used didn't really benefit from high speed RAM. So will save a few £'s here.

So what are you people thinking of RyZen wise??

Thanx.

I will be getting the 1700X.

Asrock 370X Taichi
Corsair Vengeance 16GB 2 x 8GB DDR4-3200 PC4-25600

I need a new cooler, so plan on getting the H110i.

My case is Corsair 760T custom painted, is brand new still only a year old.

I have a 390X that will probably get replaced with Vega.

I will be selling my 5820k, MSI x99, and Quad RAM next week.

So excited to build a new rig!! Ya baby.

I'm planning on going mITX if the option presents itself. If not then mATX. I too have been running older hardware for a while.

Phenom II X6 1090T. Upgrade have been limited to a Motherboard upgrade from a 890 chipset to a 990 chipset. (Gigabyte 890 motherboard to Asus CHVFZ Board) , a few GPU Upgrades, and RAM from 8GB 1066 DDR3 to 16GB 1600 DDR3. On top of all of that it turns out that my 1090T was a pathetic overclocker, capable of only 3.8ghz tops.

I was going to jump on Bulldozer, but didnt see the point in spending the money for equal performance. And by the time Piledriver was release rumors of the new AM4 socket were already circulating, so I waited. Looks like a good decision thus far.

I'd like to shoot for the 1700 and a nice simple board. But it will probably be the 1600 that get. 6c/12t is still leaps and bound better. Dunno about the whole RGB thing. I might consider it if it was tasteful and minimal. I plan on downsizing from my HAF 922 and full ATX board. mITX is where I wanna go, but due to the overly severe lack of AMD mITX boards in the past thats not promising. So probably mATX. Looking at consolidating my storage too. 1x SSD and 4x HDD in various capacities currently. Would like to slim that down personally. GPU has only been upgrade as far as GTX770 so a 1050 or higher is where I want to be GPU wise.

I have an idea of where I want to go. But it will all depend on pricing and board availability.

I have no business building another pc, but I'm very curious as how ryzen will be. seeing how I dropped all this money right around the new year. if id known I would have waited. I have a praxis wetbench red and black that I never opened and was suppose to return and I didn't. so I think I will be building a amd ryzen rig soon as its available. 17 or 1800x as they seem to have the highest clocks. makes me sick that I just dropped 529 on 6850k and amd equivalent is 260. this competition has been long overdue.

If the prices are good, and we have some decent mATX offerings, I will be building with ryzen. I need a good mATX mobo that can support 2 GPUs, and as of right now, the only one's I deem adequate on the intel side currently cost ~$190.

I would like to build a mITX workstation using the 1600

I'll be doing it at some point this year, but probably not right away. I'll wait to see the early reports on the various motherboards before I make the jump.

I'll probably be doing the 1600. A 6/12 CPU will be more than good enough for anything I want to do. There's no way I'll be able to make use of an 8/16, so there's no point in my shelling out the cash to get one.

May consider it this summer. I really don't need an upgrade for what I do, but it would be fun. We'll see.

Probably keep my 4.6ghz 2500k for another 5 years. I guess I'll be looking at zen+ or whatever intel comes up with.

Although ddr4 @ 3600mhz+ & newer cpu = decent boost in minimum framerates, however my min framerate in csgo is still far above 144hz already.

However, if this good old cpu kicks the bucket any time soon Ryzen might be in the books if it performs.

Surprised this cpu has lived 6 years @ 1.45v+.

If the reviews are good and it's not a hype train i would of move over to AMD side but i was impatient and bought the 6800K

Ryzen hype has me really excited. When i started building pc's it was with AMD chips a 700 MHz tbird to be exact and several Athlon xp systems up to the 3200. This was back when tiger direct still mailed out catalogs it was great times when they showed up in the mail. My current system a i5 3570k is showing signs of abuse that i have put it through. overclock that used to work no longer work and slight damage to the CPU socket has knocked out my dual channel ram. My growing interest in streaming is driving me to a higher core count cpu but i never had enough cash to drop a grand on a single component. Now it is looking like for a grand i can get a 8 core 16 thread cpu 32gb ram and a MB. I have been saying for a while that i wanted to down size my system and make the move to a mATX but from what i can tell at least initial there will be little to no SLI support on mATX. I love my case labs mh10 till the time comes to pick it up and put in my truck then i hate it with a passion. I will be keeping my current gpu's 3way 980ti if I can.

AMD Ryzen 7 1700 for sure
Waiting to see all cooler options at launch
Gigabyte GA-AB350 Gaming 3
250GB M.2 NVMe SSD (Not sure which brand yet, maybe the WDC Black)
I already bought a 32GB (2x16GB) kit of G.Skill RAM for a good deal

Holding out for ITX and possibly second board revisions.

CPU wise, one of the 1800s or maybe a 1700 if the binning differences aren't severe.

Ryzen is very promising, but with several Intel hex-core setups, I'm not in desperate need of a new desktop, and I've learned to be wary of new platforms in general.

Some great builds here for sure

. Will be waiting for genuine reviews before chucking money but have to say i feel more positive for this release than the FX chips. Hoping that the R7 1700 is able to make it to 4Ghz (which i feel it should) in the future then that should keep me purring along for another 5+ years
redface.gif
rolleyes.gif
.

Don't feel the need to go for 1700X or above imho as i found my 1055T thrashed my brothers 1090BE (he only got a "warm" 3.8Ghz at 1.5v!!) so i have found dropping a few pegs down the list and (if i'm as lucky this time) and OC'ing you can USUALLY make up the difference and save some £'s. Was also thinking of 1600X but thought as current consoles are 8 core and Scorpio when released will be much the same core wise (maybe EVEN RyZen parts??). I don't want to "wish" i had gone 8 core some years down the line. Because i don't usually upgrade CPU once the rig is running. Not fussed about "auto" XFR stuff as i like to control the OC myself via the BIOS.

Usually a GPU/RAM upgrade (which will be partly negated by going 32Gb DDR4 in the first place). SCAN have 32Gb of Corsair 2x16Gb going for under £200 so that seems reasonable...... Remember paying £130 for 4Gb of DDR3!!
tongue.gif
. Feels rather decadent/overkill "has 16 threads and 32Gb 'o RAM..... Plugs into 1080P TV bought in 2007!!"
biggrin.gif
biggrin.gif
. But rather go "all out" and when the time comes for some 4K loving be happy i did rather than wish i had MOAR RAM/cores/thread's and be stuck until next upgrade cycle (5 years at least). R9 390 will stay until TV gives it up then probably some AMD part that can give me 4K60Hz (happy with 60FPS imho).

Hoping by then some mid - high end GPU's will give me that will be looking to double my VRAM to 16Gb then that's the rig finished.

Thanx.

Yeah I am still on my 1090T BE and its peaked at 3.8 with similar voltage. Very disappointing.

Sitting and debating between the 1700X and the 1800X...Not sure the price difference is worth the performance gain.
I'll most likely go 1800X though..lol

Motherboard wise I'm going for an Asus Crosshair VI Hero.
