New display time

My Qnix QX2710 just up and died an hour ago. For the last two days a high pitched noise could be heard when turning on the display and PC. Today the display would turn off and on a few times when everything was booting then appear fine. While reading the Ryzen thread the display turned off and on, then on one final time and died, then a smell appeared akin to something like a garden/plant section in a store.

My budget will be $800, more if tax is needed.

Requirements.

27" min

1440p

120+ hz (why is 144 a thing instead of 120)

Gsync

IPS

Then we get into aspects that would be nice.

Better blacks than the QNIX QX2710
Better response time (Qnix was 8ms)
A stand that doesn't stick out in front

You only have a few options within your criteria. As far as I'm aware there are no 120hz+, 1440p, g-sync IPS monitors above 27" unless you look at ultra-wides. The Acer X34 ultra-wide for example is over $1000 which is out of your desired range. The 32" Acer XB321HK is 4K and 60hz, so that's out.

Your options are the above-mentioned Acer XB271HU, Asus PG279Q, ViewSonic XG2703, and AOC Agon 271QG. All of them are 27" 144hz QHD IPS (AHVA) g-sync monitors. All of them are between $700 and $800.

If you are a member of Costco the Acer can be found in-store for $599 which is a great price. Snagged one myself. They are not re-stocking them so some stores may be out. Be aware that there is a lottery with all of these monitors, you could go through a few bad ones before getting a decent panel.

I saw that one, my only gripes are that stand would cause issues with how far it sticks out, and supposedly all the 144hz 1440p IPS panels are made by the same manufacturer and have serious screen uniformity issues.

I'm leaning towards the Asus PG279Q

I meant something at least 120hz, since that's the first refreshrate above 60 you see. I still don't know why 144 became a thing and not 120.

From what I've read all of the 144z 1440p IPS displays are made by one company and have serious screen uniformity issues, or is there mostly just a serious issue with the Acer one ?

I've also looked at every display you've mentioned, the Viewsonic one supposedly may be the best choice.

Yes they are all panels made by AU Optronics (AUO). The Acer uses a slightly different panel model number vs. Asus and ViewSonic, not sure about the panel in the AOC. But the same issues arise with all of them- uniformity, dust, pixels, BLB. Generally the Acer has been the better model speaking only in terms of BLB. I've tried 2 ViewSonics and 1 had really bad BLB. The 2nd one after a week of use developed an inch long dark blemish in the middle of the screen.

Here are my stats and experiences. Since late 2015 I have bought / exchanged / returned about 20 of these monitors in total (Acer, Asus, ViewSonic) spread out over a few different retailers. Because I demand a minimum level of quality out of an $800 monitor. Sue me. Out of them all I've only had 4 or 5 monitors that had no pixel defects and movable dust specks. Those were Acer and ViewSonic. Out of those 4-5, only 2 of them had acceptable levels of BLB, uniformity, no blemishes, and dust specks that I was able to flick away out of the visible screen area. These 2 keepers were / are both Acers. My 1st Acer lasted 8 months and died. I sent it into Acer for them to update the firmware and all appeared fine when I got it back. But there was a pressure spot that developed and worsened, turned orange, and ultimately killed my monitor. Likely damaged during shipping. Acer said I damaged it, so Microcenter couldn't honor the replacement plan and refunded me the plan price.

My 2nd and current Acer that I've kept I just got last weekend from Costco b/c couldn't pass up the price. It has really nice uniformity and minor BLB, and a dust speck that I flicked away. All of the Acers out now (should) have the updated firmware so you're safe re: that issue - just in case, make sure you get one with a build date July 2016 onward.

If you are going to buy one of these monitors, I would pick the Acer or ViewSonic. Good luck and hope you retain your sanity during the process.

I may end up not going the 144hz route since it seems to limit me to AUO panels, if I can find a display that meets my 1440p IPS 27" (with Gsync, maybe) for less without screen issues, I may jump on it.

Anyways, that's (expletive) ridiculous. After 1.5 years my Qnix developed an issue with a hair and dust appearing inside out of nowhere, odd considering I never opened the panel, but I assumed it was because these were A- and they were being put together by hand. I really don't even know what to say except that companies almost seem like scams now, this never would have happened with CRT's. I miss those days, just find the size and resolution and get it, then enjoy it. I'm the type that doesn't want to wait, so having to return a display once, let alone 20 times just seems like an awful experience.

I'm on a 24" 1080p TN panel, and these viewing angles are atrocious, so I have to get something to replace it. I may be a bit greedy by going for what I originally wanted, these panel stories sound disgustingly unacceptable.

Any recommendations that are cheaper, which would mean 60hz and no Gsync ?

Assuming the panels are worth it, the AUO quality bothers me.
