How to overclock i7 7700k past 5.0ghz

I'm about to start trying to see how far I can get with the i7 7700k and my build. I'd like your opinion as to which bios settings might be important to think about.

I'll be using the Asus Maximus IX z270 motherboard
My only Drive is an SSD 1tb (no m.2 for now)
Running windows 10
My graphics card is a GTX 1080 (asus gaming strix)
My ram is Avexir 3000mhz 16gb (2x8gb)

I'm running a custom waterloop, which is quite overkill atm because it's only cooling the cpu in the loop (not the gpu which is air cooled only). So as of now, I've only run a "lazy man's overclock" using the software that came with the mobo, and I tested 4.8ghz and under 1hr load prime 95 small FFTS (max temp) I get 54 celsius degrees max from my cpu cores. So plenty of headroom apparantly

What vid si your cpu, and what vcore you need for 4.8 stable?

I just left vcore on automatic when I got to 4.8.

I see during torture tests that the core voltage goes up to 1.291v (1.3 according to other monitoring programs)

Yes if you leave auto, it will estimate for a safe vcore, almost always can be improved by lowering some notches...
Cpu vid?

Check out this video:

Lots of great information about the z270 BIOS and it's many settings. He does a great walkthrough.

Thanks for the link:

so I now have to look at my memory.

After much testing I found my CPU to be stable @ 5.0ghz @ 1.36v
For those tests I left the mobo auto-determine RAM timings and speed. My RAM kit is rated (xmp profile) to run @ 2800mhz @1.35v CAS 15

Unfortunatly the second I run the CPU at it's stable OC (5.0ghz) along with using the XMP profile for the ram (2.8ghz instead of 2.133 (Default)) my computer is not stable anymore and exhibits weird behavior at times. What settings should I play with? (on my asus maximus hero IX z270 mobo) ?

If you are setting xmp for memory and that's the only change, you should play with vccio volts, but 2800 is a low speed for the cpu to need high io. Set manually 2800 at cas 15 with 1.35 and try hci memtest 8 instances.

so I ran the memtest with 7 instances of 2047mb and no errors found, coverage at 270%

This is with my latest voltage adjustements and whatnot. So maybe, the problem was CPU related... Maybe somehow, with this increased ram speed and different timings, the cpu might need slightly more voltage I guess.

I'll test it out and find out where its stable.

Then I'll be down to overclocking a little the GPU
