overclocking laptop GPU

i want to overclock my laptop's graphics card. the laptop is a Dell Inpisron 600M laptop with the best video card it can support, ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 , lol yea i kno it sux. so is it a good idea to overclock a laptop video card and put its memory and core at max?

I would say no because of heat problems. Its already bad enough with the rigorious testing a laptop goes through for heat stability (thats why we cant build them like we build desktops) so adding more heat is not a good idea. Unless you have a way for extra cooling.

yea i do have a cooling pad for it. THIS is the extra cooling i have bought for my laptop. so is this enough cooling for a major overclock ir should i just boost the clock to the next level (ie: originally 200 boosted to 300)

You can put it at anything you want as long as the temps dont get more than a 5-8 degree range above normal. You just have to think about the other components and that they arent getting damaged by excessive heat.

how can i check the temp of my system and find out what the normal temp is after overclocking besides defaulting it and checking?

heh Be patient. I can't see why they wouldn't use standard winbond interfaces, so try using motherboard monitor 5 or cpu cool to check your temps.

good luck trying to find if MBM5 supports your laptop mobo.

I oc'd my laptop graphics card, a 9600, but only a little bit, and to be honest, it worked better at stock speeds with the new Omega drivers (based on 4.7 cats) than it did with the 4.6 Omega and a mild OC.

It generates enough heat as it is, and with the OC, I just started to artifact.
