I recently gave the new 7700k a delid job, went well (I thought).
Delid and relid were both clean, and everything went smooth.
Put the chip back in and powered up and my PC kept bootlooping. I quickly figured it was something to do with my delid so I did the process over again, paying attention to make sure everything was flawless.
Same issue, bootloops.
Before going through the process again I decided to pull a RAM stick, and suddenly we were up and running.
Now, no matter what I do, I can't boot the system with two sticks in slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4. Both sticks must be in slots 3 and 4 for the system to boot.
Is this potentially an issue with delidding? or is this likely coincidence and bad luck?
Did the system run fine before delid?
Did you notice anything on the cpu pcb? Scratches maybe?
Have you checked the socket pins to make sure none were bent when you reinstalled your cpu?
What was the delidd method? Had this happen to me when I delidded my first 3570k..Im pretty sure I somehow damaged my IMC, I used the hammer and vice method.
As others have stated, I would look at the socket or the dimms (and the dimm slots) and see if anything like that is out of whack.
(Not that my 3930k was delidded, but) I had a similar issue where my pc wouldn't do quad channel and wouldn't boot sometimes, noticed that some thermal paste/dust got in/on the socket. Cleaned it up and it has been working like a champ ever since.

yea that does suck lol def try loosening up the cooler some i know some boards can be picky about that and you lose ram slots, heck my x58 went without ram slots for no real reason after i moved cases a couple years ago then all of sudden when i moved to a new case they worked even tho nothing was touching at all that shouldnt be.
Did you ever get any progress on this? I have the same situation after deliding a 3570k - I'm going to have a look again this weekend, but at the same time I'm also content that I have a decent OC to 4.5ghz now, albeit with single channel RAM
Check the contacts on the cpu for any debris as well as looking at socket pins.
