Dolby Atmos Gaming Thread - Page 2

Well, finally gamers that are on my level of speed (audio immersion) smile.gif I started with a 5.1.2 Onyko, but found that wasnt quite immersive enough, and then got a better 5.1.2 setup, still not powerful enough, so then I just went top city and got a Marantz SR7010. SUCCESS biggrin.gif and then Windows now NATIVELY supports Dolby Atmos in the Creators patch or whatever they call it, so EVERYTHING streams in Atmos to your receiver, ahh, what a great time we live in smile.gif and yes, I do have the Auro3D addon as well as well as a 9.1/5.1.4 setup, so Im ready for anything smile.gif Battlefield 1 is pretty awesome and the new DLC pack levels use Atmos QUITE well. It's also quite nice to hear the 'planes' coming at you from the actual direction they are flying around in, and turn and start pumping lead into their non-landing contraptions(i dont call them planes as planes have to LAND and refuel etc) It sucks when i hear about games like Tarkov, that look so awesome, yet...are stuck in 5.1 land tongue.gif sigh smh. Hopefully theyll catch up to us smile.gif perhaps smile.gif maybe smile.gif

I'm still more interested in HRTF virtual surround for Headphones - Whether that's Dolby Atmos Headphone, Creative's solution, even Sennheiser's new thingy.

I got the new win10 creators update and saw that dolby atmos was supported. When I went to put it on dolby atmos headphone it linked me to the store to download an app. Once downloaded the app says dolby atmos for headphones is "coming soon" check back later.

anyone got an eta on dolby atmos for headphones?

Hopefully soon.

But it feels like a marketing decision, a forced delay to try and get people to buy a receiver with Dolby Atmos.

If it's not there in a month or so, I'll call it DOA.

Uh, it's not. Atmos has been out now since 2014. They are in the market. It's all good on their end.

It's your choice but things take longer than a month to happen like that.

Trust me. They don't just "hold out" on stuff for funzies. rolleyes.gif Either something works and they market it or it doesn't and they shelf it.

yeah, I just ordered the Auro3D demo disc, i found one of the demo's online(yes, properly encoded), WOW. talk about making Atmos look PATHETIC. I didn't think I could say that so soon..but its NOT EVEN CLOSE to Auro3D. Now Auro just has to get their act together and get FAR more media out with their codec...I mean, Atmos does a good job, but its nowhere NEAR Auro3D, I mean, light years ahead of Atmos...I certainly hope they pick up their socks and get a LOT more widespread in the coming year. smile.gif

also in regards to the headphone comment, I dont think they are 'holding out' but really, just getting it to work 'more efficiently'? I mean, its already out for a few games specifically, so obviously it works when dedicated, perhaps its a generic issue they are sorting out? After all, the Atmos codec for Windows is FAR from perfect, but its better than I would have imagined out of the gate. The difference in 'Saving Private Ryan' on the battlescenes is pretty massive though. in Auro3D of course, FAR better and immersive, Atmos does a good job too though smile.gif

*yeah im already a tad biased after ONE demo biggrin.gif hehe so looking forward to the demo disc now!

Welcome to the club. The Immersive Audio Club. cool.gif

thx smile.gif although I will throw this out there, The Dolby Atmos twitter page featured my system a year and some ago, I doubt they anticipated we, the gamers, would be adapting it to our PC's as we have. and driving things forward. It was the first iteration of my Atmos system, I have since upgraded quite heavily towards an Auro3D 11.1 system, however I have an Auro3D 9.1/Dolby Atmos 5.1.4 system currently, and it MORE than suffices. I nearly crapped myself when I found out Battlefront was going to support Atmos, however the lackluster gameplay just destroyed that experience for me, but it DID sound nice, no doubt there. Battlefield 1 has redeemed them somewhat, but again, now after hearing Auro3D, they have so far to go, its not even funny now...

my featured system was only a 5.1.2 Atmos setup.

lol ok

"They" as in Dolby already has a working headphone emulator for Atmos. It may be that the gaming (or Windows related) half of the equation can't quite get it working.
