Right... and this shows what exactly? That 2 $200 GPUs give roughly the same framerate as one $400 GPU, but at the cost of twice the power draw, heat dump, and noise, and with the additional latency, frame pacing, and compatibility issues inherent to SLI?

Sounds like a pretty hard sell to go with the single GPU and stay clear of SLI to me.

No, this shows that second hand 300 EU SLI GTX970 can beat 400 EU GTX1070. The negative sides of power consumption and compatibility with other games were obvious, the point was to redeem SLI in general, since it was fairly often (in some ways obviously justified) bashed in recent times.

Also the noise argument is the most stupid i've read in recent times as those GTX970 i own are even more quiet than GTX1070 i own. Newer does not mean more quiet...

Games SLI Worked

For Honor - Perfect SLI Scaling right on release
Resident Evil 7 - Great SLI scaling
Overwatch - Works great in SLI for me, no problems.
BF1 - Worked with SLI, then became fiddly because of windows updates, SLI now works in BF1 perfectly though
Witcher 3 - SLI Scaling is good
Rise of the Tomb Raider - SLI scaling is good
Total War: Warhammer- SLI works but scaling isn't that good (it's only like 40%)
FarCry Primal - Scaling is decent.
GTA V - Great SLI scaling
Doom - Now has SLI support and is good
The Division - Good SLI support/scaling
Dark Souls 3 SLI - SLI Profile was actually made BEFORE games release and works fine
Deus EX Mankind Divided - SLI was bad at first but now it's great
Sniper Elite 4: Amazing SLI scaling
Titanfall 2: Just bought but SLI is working fine

Games SLI Didn't work

Forza Horizon 3

The above games are all games I've recently bought, all of them support SLI excepts forza. UE4 doesn't work with SLI currently but they are adding support for it which will cover UE4 games.

Anyone that has SLI knows that the first 1-4 weeks of a game there's normally no SLI profile. Anyone that gets into SLI or is thinking about it should know this too. It's also quite easy to support SLI, but game developers need to stop being lazy about it. Especially when developers make two games in the same engine but one supports SLI and the other doesn't, that should never happen.

Sorry but DOOM, RE 7 and titan fall don't have proper SLI support Dark Souls is capped at 60fps. FC Primal scaling is a joke compared to prev FC games.
Forza Horizon 3 is DX12 so SLI will never happen it will use API level multi GPU.

SLI is not dead But really depend on ones circumstances and budget and ultimately aim.

My friend has 1 GTX 970, he managed to pick another 1 up for around $100 USD works out to be a real nice cheap upgrade.

Back in the day it was worth getting 2 lower tier card to beat the top dog card, because the premium you paid for the top of the line that was only 5-10% faster, now days I would highly recommend the fastest single card the 1080 TI is undoubtedly 35% faster than the 1080.

I am holding off I am wanting another 1080Ti til Vega comes the only reason to buy 2 new card and SLI them because they are the fastest cards available (excluding TitanXp pure cost premium for 10% gain = not worth it)

you have sold me the SLI 90% of games support it and if it doesn't who cares I got a single 1080Ti that is obviously a pretty fast card my 3k screen is pretty hungry when it come to GPU power

I ran SLI for years up till my 1080 SLI and i sold because how awful support is and i was avid nvidia inspector making things work...not anymore cant force SLI on game engines that lack support without breaking something in process.

Now im on single Ti and another neg effect I noticed when i switched to one GPU is SLI added a frame buffer to deal with micro stutter it also causes lag. Most noticeable in battlefield games. Ill never run SLI/multi GPU until it becomes a standard and this wont happen till console use multi GPUs (will never happen) AND they use SFR something other than laggy AFR crap.

Holy cow Gears 4 Multi GPU is awesome.

Single: 76.6 Avg.
Multi: 146.6 Avg.

Edit: Trying to get video but Gears keeps crashing with OBS open or even Afterburner after patch.

And this is why SLI is dead, what'd it take, 6+ months for sli to be implemented?

I guess because it isn't "SLI" but "Multi-GPU". Brand new for DX12 games.

Hopefully it becomes the standard.

Not even close to enough grunt with 1 GPU especially @ 4K+ & considering 99% of the games I play scale incredibly well with SLI, I"ll be sticking with mGPU/SLI thumb.gif

Nice scaling with GOW4 wink.gif
