PC build for a 10 year old

I already made a thread in the AMD section where i asked about Ryzen but it turns out Ryzen has not come to Denmark yet which means that option is out the window
So i am going to have to make do with Intel instead

So my bother in law has asked me to build his son his first PC because i talked him out of buying a pre built one because they always suck!
So he told me has 5000 kr which is around $700 and he needs a whole PC WITH monitor for that amount which means its a really tight budget

I will be ordering from this site and since my brother in law has a company we can fill a VAT exemption which means those 5000 kr will reach a lot longer
https://www.computersalg.dk/

Could someone please help me out because i know next to nothing about low budget computers in general
Would like the whole system to be as small as possible so it needs to be a M-ATX board and case.

Thanks

I am going to go with the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv mATX so far
Its not the cheapest M-ATX case out there but i know Phanteks so i know its not rubbish.

$700 should be enough to build a pc with a budget GPU that will be significantly better than any cpu graphics. Do ryzen cpus even have onboard graphics? I haven't been following them too closely. Tried looking at that website for some insight, but translate isn't working very well so it's hard to find things for me.

Can't a laptop or tablet do the same job? You can always hook up monitor and other peripherals. Even phones probably have enough power for the tasks needed when an old china phone can do 1080p gaming with the MTK and Mali SoC.
I would not recommend building a PC when laptop power is enough which honestly is even for majority of adult computer users.

He has a laptop and it old and cant run anything
No he needs a desktop PC and thats what he is going to get

He wants this PC to run Ark Survival Evolved which is pretty much the new Crysis.

The go-to budget CPU nowadays is the Pentium G4560. It's basically an i7 cut in half. I personally own one and it's very impressive. I have it paired with a RX470. You can easily build something under $700 with that CPU and a solid GPU.

Otherwise If you can wait, I'm sure the 4 core Ryzen cpu's will be awesome bang for buck.

#8 ·
Ah OK, so he needs a machine capable running modern AAA games, guess kids have different requirements these days. Times change.

I would wait for Ryzen being fully launched and refresh GPUs hitting the market at which point current stuff will get at least discounted. Summer probably, not a good time right now to build.
Then you can pick up some Ryzen 2/4 core for cheap and cheap AMD GPU 470 or something.

Edit: no psu selected on first dropped ssd from 525GB to 275GB also changd to single dimm of ram to make upgrades easier. Also reread the original post and you said he needs a monitor but doesnt need a dedicated gpu. Id drop the rx480 for now than and get the monitor then get he 480 when you can. if he's playing ARK though he'll want a dedicated gpu.

Seems like no read in the OP that he needs a monitor too
Its $700 WITH a monitor

And last the PC needs to be done in 10 days so i cant wait around for Ryzen either

Edit: i think i worked out a few parts on my own so i am going to look into how much those parts cost.

You can use that as a guideline, pick differently what you want, add what drives you want. Prepare to have to flash the board since these older need an update to support newer CPUs, I don't think it's an issue as in the board won't boot, on mine it worked fine and the updated UEFI only added predefined OC table presets.

The Corsair VS is junk so thank you but no thank you
I got the PSU covered and i am thinking of adding 200 kr extra of my own money to make sure the PSU i pick does not suck.

#13 ·
Choose which you like, they are all junk to me in that price range. Will it run? Sure. Will it burn, probably not. Does it need sub 50mV ripple, nah. There are plenty cheap junk PSUs to choose from, most will do the job anyway. Dunno how much is that cheap 400W EVGA, if it will fit the budget.

Ah yeah there it is I think: https://www.computersalg.dk/i/1372889/evga-430w-100-240-v-50-60-hz-over
+40Kr.

He is not getting some some group regulated junk made by HEC
Its his birthday gift and i think i am going to spend that extra money and get a CX450 which is the best compromise between cost and quality

Almost finished picking out the parts so when i am finished i am going to list them and ask what you guys think
Think i can stretch the budget to 5600 kr.

Edit: Got enough money left so far to throw in a RX460.

I am not sure about the monitor the motherboard and the CPU.

I would like to but the the problem is he got AHAD or something like and he cant sit still for more then a few seconds
Besides that i dont think he has the interest or patience for it and he would probably leave before we got very far.

He has two smaller sisters as well and i would really like to avoid building a PC with 3 small klds crawling and stepping all over the PC while i am building it

In my list it should be a cheap but very popular IPS 24" Samsung 1080p.
Box coolers are fine on these CPUs dunno why waste money on extra cooler immediately.
That Samsung you found is it not more or less like the Asus i found
Dont mind swtiching the Asus out for the Samsung.

And i am not sure if you read the OP or not but we can use VAT exemption which means its 5600 kr BEFORE VAT not after.

I'd swap the i3 7100 for a Pentium G4560. Equal performance for almost half the price. Now that the Pentiums have hyper threading I'd never ever even consider an i3.

Do you have a review or something that shows the two compared
Sure i would like to get the Pentium G4560 instead as its way cheaper

Could save enough money to go from a RX 470 to a RX 480 with that much saved.

I recommended this in my first post. With a G4560 @ $64 and a 1050Ti or RX470 you can easily squeeze a 1080 monitor in under $700

The i3 clearly wins because it's 3.9GHz but it's certainly not worth double the price.

Is 8 GB of RAM going to be enough? i could maybe push 16 GB of RAM in there in anyone else in the family throws in a little bit more
Or maybe a bigger SSD? just asking for thoughts.
