Projects of the Month for March 2017

We can move the discussion of what to run for March here and can change if desired. It's SETI's turn in the limited GPU project rotation, SETI supports both GPU and CPU. NFS is a project we have not run for a while and we can make up a spot.

A suggestion has been made to select POM projects to maintain our position in Formula Boinc, SETI, NFS and WCG are projects where we are quite low in the standings. We can also make up a spot in our ranking in WCG.

http://formula-boinc.org/index.py?lang=&team=78248&year=2017

SETI@home

Start: 125 Goal: 124

NFS@home

Start: 24 Goal: 23

World Community Grid

Start: 71 Goal: 70

Let me know if you want to use Formula Boinc to set goals for POM or not, they also have Sprints through the year coinciding with Formula One race dates, the first would be a mystery project to run 03/23/2017 13:00 (UTC) - 03/26/2017 12:59 (UTC).

I am open to any suggestions.

Wheeee, more BOINC!

NFS has been on my list to run again, so I'll be adding that in fairly soon, same with Seti as it's been a while ^_^

I'm running NFS on my i3 but I was already deep into Rosetta on my other two systems when the POTM was announced...I don't want to stop till I at least reach 1 million points.

Am I doing something wrong with SETI or does it just not prefer nvidia cards? My 1080 is taking about 20 minutes per unit. The temperature is very low on the card and GPU utilization is fluctuating all over the place. Is there a way to optimize it to make my card work harder?

I used to use Lunatics when I crunched seti.

Lunatics v0.45 - Beta6 for Windows

Looks like it works with Pascal

Running 4 tasks per card seems optimal so far with a 80% gpu usage...

I tried running 5 and 6 tasks at a time but it just resulted in memory failures.
Ouch, that Lunatics program had a terrible impact on my run time, taking much longer to run. I will need to figure out what I did wrong when I get home Sunday night.
Is there a cfg file specific to seti to modify that forces it to run multiple seti units? or is it not project specific?

The config file is in the app_info.xml provided by Lunatics. It's kind of a pain to modify (lots of ctrl+f and cut/paste) It also has some old code in it that uses the v7 version which is no longer used...which results in log errors.

I might upload my cleaned file that uses 4 tasks and no v7 if anybody is interested...or maybe make a tutorial on how to set it up.

I noticed that most of the top computers still use it so I'm assuming it's still relevant.

Maybe hold off on the Lunatics app.

I haven't run Seti properly since August for the SETI@Home-Wow!-Event and I did a quick search of the top computers and saw most of them using it before suggesting it to @k4m1k4z3 (sorry man)

It can be a real pain to setup and it also looks like the performance gains are marginal to what they once were.

Not sure I've seen a more disconnected set of project preferences with respect to the application names. Looks like the apps are named after Lattice Sieve e then 14 or 15 in Hex so E or F. But then 16eV5 is 5f or some reason.
rolleyes.gif

lasieved - app for RSALS subproject, uses less than 0.5 GB memory
lasievee - work nearly always available, uses up to 0.5 GB memory
lasievef - used for huge factorizations, uses up to 1 GB memory
lasieve5f - used for huge factorizations, uses up to 1 GB memory

The apps I see running now are 14e, 15e and 16eV5 which seem to be the last three listed in project preferences.

Edit: Well I had disabled the last to get 14e and 15e. Then disabled the ef to get 14e but still got 15e with the 1st two so I've got no idea now. No 14e ready to send to back to v5.

I was trying to figure that out. I need 14 and 15 for Wuprop stars and didn't know which one to disable to stop getting 16's.

And on that note WUProp is being wierd. In Boinc Manager I was getting this:
Quote:
WUProp@Home: Notice from BOINC
This project is using an old URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add https://wuprop.boinc-af.org/
So I changed it to https://wuprop.boinc-af.org/

Now I'm getting this:

It's telling me to change it back.......I can't win.

14 is the 1st one.

There is a thread about the URL on WUProp forums:

Yup, cpu only... With a surprising amount of Windows only tasks (that with a bit of coaxing will work in Linux with Wine)
