An i5 will not run fast well, hell it won't even run very fast well depending on the game. i5 you're stuck using quicksync which is pretty shoddy quality.

I did a test stream tonight of Overwatch 160 fps 1440p capped + x264 veryfast and had cpu usage peak at 88% with chrome open as well. Basically i7 is really barely cutting it for gaming + streaming.

bought an orange gtx 1080 biggrin.gif yea I know the cooler sucks but I don't care biggrin.gif

after a few bios updates still can't get my ripjaws V 3200mhz CL16 to run above 2400mhz. I have tightened the timings to Cas13 but it doesn't seem like it helps (seems like the infinity fabric wants faster ram) is it too soon to give up? I'm thinking of just buying a new kit but last time I checked they're not cheap rolleyes.gif

You don't tighten the timings if you want to increase the memory speed you need to loosen them. Try 2667 with 18-16-16-38 timings.

I take it that he tightened the timings after giving up on frequency overclock.

ASUS B350 prime mATX? Could be the problem. X370 seems to be getting more attention as far as ram speed goes. Hopefully once Ryzen 5 launches and there is more focus from manufacturers promoting B350 there will be better support for faster ram. At least 2667 if not 3000/2996 or whatever it is with Ryzen.

Set ALL timings manually (SPD reading software is a good start to get all subtiming values for your RAM) if you want faster memory/IF speeds. Ive seen 2400 kits running at 3200 on Ryzen, you just have to set the latencies properly (20-20-20-40 range if coming from 2400), there are calculators around the internet to generate the 3200 timings from 2400 ones.

Even with horrid timings, 3200 is faster than 2400 on Ryzen.

Ive also seen the MSI B350 Tomahawk running 3600, so there is that. Max speed is dependent on luck of the draw on the CPU and weather or not your vendor is putting the X370 UEFI fixes in its B350 UEFIs.

AFAIK, on Asus boards, you need to incrementally increase ram speeds because the built in link training is pretty bad at this point. IE, set 2400 at your 3200 timings and reboot, then change speed to 2667 and reboot, and so forth until you reach your desired speed. Have to do this at every cold boot as well. Actually, the same thing happens on Asus AM1 platforms.
