Sooner or later that would be the new standard.. or maybe the mass people would go to 4K meaning resolution is everything biggrin.gif I mean everybody tries to push 4k nowadays making their ads..

You do not have to hold them, but you for sure you want and hope so- I mean you have put a lot of money in your hardware and would like to get as much as you can thumb.gif

I would like to chime in on this.

In my opinion the fuss about having to hold consistent 60Hz is because if one does not have variable refresh rate dropping below the native refresh rate results in tearing which is normally rather noticeable effect. Without tearing, i.e., g-sync or freesync display with matching GFX card dropping below 60fps is barely noticeable most of the time. When buying my 144 Hz display I considered free-sync as just as an additional "nice to have" but I would go as far as to say that having a free-sync in that display is making a larger difference for me at this point than it being a 144Hz display even though I do play competitive shooters as well.

Edit: I should probably add that I also have a 4K display without freesync. After getting the 1440p freesync one I play most of the time on that one - although there is few games where I like the 4K better. Both are about the same physical size, 28'' 4K and 27'' 1440p.

Personally I am not mechanically fast enough to benefit from 120Hz screen. I am still the bottleneck. When I become a pro by age 30 I will buy me a 240 Hz screen an pwn all you 144Hz nubs.

Well those were some interesting PHP errors tongue.gif

Anyways, I'm mainly playing Overwatch. I've been on 144hz + for at least 4 years now starting with the VG248QE and i won't ever go back to anything less. It is immediately noticeable how much slower 60hz looks and feels. That's not to say that i couldn't get used to it and be a good player but why would i want to? There is no denying that higher refresh rate and higher fps to go along with that will give you some advantage. Whether you're physically capable of taking advantage of that is a different story, but i'm 23 and am playing aim sensitive characters at a high level of play (currently 4300 rated).

I've considered going for a 240hz monitor, but even i understand that there are diminishing returns when going past 144hz. I don't think i'll play any better on 240hz vs 144hz, i dont see myself being hardware limited. I also sure as hell dont want to go back to 1080p. 1440p 165hz is where to be right now. When 1440p 240hz happens i'll be sure to upgrade especially if its IPS. TN is getting very sore to look at rolleyes.gif

Fun thing to do - hook up 60 inch plasma to gaming rig - set resolution to 480 - BOOM - Every game you play is now the LEGO version smile.gif.

ur 50" 4k tv has less PPI than a 24" 1080p screen, and a 32" 1440p screen has the same PPI as a 24" 1080p screen. So essentially, that 4k tv of urs will have the most noticeable pixels out of all 3 lol.

I think it is time for me to jump into this nest of fanatical gamers and ask a question that has been nagging me for a while: Why 144 Hz? Mains frequencies or digital values would seem more likely to be chosen. That is, one might imagine 100 Hz, or 120 Hz, or 128 Hz, or 150 Hz, or 180 Hz, etc., but a dozen dozen hertz?

Was there a study done somewhere relating that frame rate to some human characteristic, like eye fovial "pixels" swept per second given nystagmus motion angular rate? Or was this the best a dominant twisted nematic display maker could do at some point and it became the goal for everyone else?
