Phenom II was a very interesting architecture. Despite having really good L3 cache bandwidth, increasing the CPU/NB clock speed (L3 cache, IMC) gives quite a large performance increase that's fairly even to that given when you overclock the CPU. That'll be one reason why Phenom II has more bandwidth than Ryzen at least, on Phenom II the L3 comes clocked at 2Ghz stock with overclocks often reaching 2.8Ghz, meanwhile even with DDR4-3600 the L3 on Ryzen is still only at 1800Mhz afaik.

Can someone with Ryzen test L3 cache speeds with fast RAM?

Just wanted to share the performance of that AM4 apu running 2400mhz DDR4.

I hope there is an 8 core APU biggrin.gif

Now replace the GPU cores with Vega, the CPU cores with Zen cores, increase the amount of CUs from 8 to 11, increase the clock speed by a few hundred MHz, swap memory controller with the one in Summit Ridge and run the RAM at proper DDR4 speeds (3GHz+). Both CPU and GPU performance should be up by 50%+.

Not much info on them yet.

I would suspect they will launch right after Raven Ridge APUs. I expect R3s to be those APU with disabled iGPU, just like 860k was. But i could be entirely wrong.

I really hated the fact that most of the games I played did not support the resolution. With 4K 16:9 everything will work. I think the only downside is that they are not good for competitive gaming because the screen is massive. I just can go back to 1440p anymore. Loading up Witcher 3 in this monitor should brings the world close to you. This is where 4K makes a difference. On a TV for 6+ feet away you do not appreciate 4K.

Or get a bigger 4k TV (ie 65"-70"+)

I will disagree that 1440p is now unacceptable as I still find my 1440p monitors certainly adequate but 4K would be a significant upgrade, no doubt about it (but only at a significantly larger size than my current displays). I have no interest whatsoever in "competitive" gaming and simply want my games to look as good and crisp as possible and for that 4K is hard to beat. Only issue is the amount of GPU horsepower you need to push the resolution at max quality (which is even more crucial than at lower resolutions since any compromises in graphical quality are magnified at 4K).

Same on 1440p. When I got mine the majority of 4K PC monitors were either 27" or ridiculously expensive for 32" and GPU power to push it was also questionable. Really happy with my 32" 1440p for my desk as it was the same ppi as the 24" I was upgrading from but a significantly larger screen. Adding only 3" diagonal to me is very underwhelming even coupled with a higher resolution.
