I'm currently on a Swift PG278Q .

I would wait for the new Samsungs being released soon.

Not familiar with those. What's so special about them? Although tbh Samsung electronics are very hit or miss.

Here's proof from Nvidia themselves: https://youtu.be/79-s8byUkxk?t=981

They even explain that voltages are locked to a limit because if you go beyond that, you reduce the life to not just a year, but 1 month.

Voltage/current, regardless of temp, causes degradation. As chips get smaller and components consist of less mass, these issues become much more prevalent. This is typically called 'electron migration'.

That's bs he's just saying it could happen.

People have been running 1080 for almost a year now. don't see any of there cards dead.

I have a GTX480 that's still alive and a 780Ti that has been overvolted beyond what you can even do with the voltage slider and there still alive. By the time your card dies there will probably be 6 more generations of graphics cards. 2cents.gif

And if it does die in a year or 2 or 3 it's under warranty.

Consider running liquid metal. It's not nearly as scary as people make it out to be. Unless you have shaky hands from Parkinson's or similar ofcorse.

Just flood the area around the GPU die with higher temp liquid tape and go to town. This will drastically lower your temps as it's nearly as good as solder in terms of thermal transfer and will drop your temps significantly.

When you're done with the card, just wipe it off carefully and peel off the tape.

He're how my old 1080 and Titan X Maxwell before it cleaned up after I was done with em. You can literally flood the area surrounding the socket with liquid electrical tape to ward off shorts and peel it off when done. Same with the Shunt mod frankly.

One can always practice on old useless hardware first if scurrd....

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Show some results.

I have used liquid metal in the past on gpu's and the temp difference for say a high quality tim compared to clu is not that much better. Maybe 1°c - 3°c difference.

liguid metal seems to be best on the die of intel cpu's 2cents.gif

Agreed. I delided a 4770k back in the day and put some liquid metal on it. made a HUGE difference in temps.

Dunno about re-timming a gpu though, diminishing returns? Is the Ti using paste or pads? And what sort of temp delta are we looking at between stock and replaced trim?

I am worried about reports of liquid metal eating up metals. I think that's one reason why it has remained under the IHS.
