Not really. tongue.gif

1. They want to make money, buy their backplate
2. Might only work on the FE, no other reference based cards
3. Since you need to mess with different screws and such, EK does not recommend it and says it is not doable?

Someone here did it and you can't use all the old screws, only a few fit it on the stock backplate with an EK waterblock but they said it doesn't affect functionality at all. rolleyes.gif

Just ordered a 4960X - hopefully this will be enough for the cards to scale. Let's see.

Yeah. Were you can't fit the FE screws, just use the EK scews so everything is correct.

There isn't anything functional about the backplate anyways, it's just for cosmetics, you could slap some double sided tape on there if you wanted to hold it in place lol.

I'm pretty sure there are some thermal pads on the backplate and it provides some passive cooling on some components.

At least my Maxwell Titan X has that with EK but i'd have to look at the not installed plate at home.

Doing a 24 hour leak test on my prefilled waterblock with quick disconnects NOT attached to my 1080 Ti.
