I agree... Boost 3.0 isn't meant for a OC junky like us.

Did you try the curve?

You can get a good idea if you can hit 2100 Mhz if when you first run a benchmark and it boosts to 2100 when temperatures are around 30C.

I always saw my card hit 2100 Mhz at 1.032V just for a second before temperature went up and I would go down to 2088 Mhz.

I want to buy a GTX 1080 TI but if my 2600k is bottlenecking my 1080 getting a TI will just be worse. In that case ill just upgrade the proc and motherboard instead of the vid card and get the Evga TI when it is released.

I knew a lot of noobs would jump straight to the gun and say upgrade when there is hardly any difference between a 2600k vs 7700k. I would account more the difference because of the available DDR4 than actual upgrades to the CPU. Intel has just been focusing on power savings.

If your 2600k isnt OC'ed I would recommend doing an OC.

It is overclocked at the highest stable speed 4.2ghz. with 16 gigs of RAM. I've gone through that article when it was posted but that isn't really talking about the answer I'm after.

I would recommend bumping the OC up to eliminate any chance of bottle-necking. There is about a 20% advantage of the 7700k over the 2600k clock for clock and that accounting the 7700k ran with faster DDR4 memory. Now if it was a 2500k I would definitely recommend upgrading the CPU.

My 2600k sits at 4.8GHz OC and I'm sure I wont bottleneck my Aorus 1080 TI im getting this Tuesday smile.gif

My core i5 760 @4.2 was fine for BF1 with my geforce 1080 @ 2101 mhz @4K. Framerate was mostly 65, lowest dip I saw was 55. People throw the term " bottleneck " around way too much. I dont think it means what you people think it means. You can still happily game on a 2600k overclocked with a 1080ti. You could do so for the next 4-5 years im sure.

Exactly! I see soo many noobs throwing the term that the CPU is gonna bottleneck. Some of them with ridiculous claims. That HardOC article disproves the myths that apparently 2+ year old CPU's now bottleneck newer GPU's.

Anything over +150 eventually locks up 2100 instant lock even with voltage curve.

Next time you have a question on something you're not sure about, I'll make sure to refer to as "noob" and try to answer it for you.smile.gif
