NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti Owner's Club - Page 328

really depends on the game tbh. I experienced it on my son's rig in Arma 3. he was getting 50%~ cpu and gpu usage but only 30s framerate. I upgraded his ram from 1333 to 1866 c-9 , and he now gets 50s fps and much higher usage, but if his AMD setup allowed he'd still benefit from faster ram, up to around 2400 on ddr3 set-ups.
In BF1 on a 4690k/980ti setup i was hitting 100% cpu usage and ~80s% gpu usage, so that was a classic cpu bound scenario right there.

What numbers are you seeing?

Nope, it sits Horisontally, motherboard is vertically, Like most PC's smile.gif

I read that I should not do it, if the GPU sits vertically, but mine doesn't so I'm good!

It was nerve wrecking starting it up for the first time though, had to film it incase it went boom, so I could share tongue.gif

I understand that for someone with a 7700k, of course they wont upgrade unless they are "that guy", but for people on a old platform i think the few months wait for a new platform and the 7740k would be smart. Or Skylake-X, which has the potential to be amazing too. And if you are on the new platform it should leave you with an upgrade path, which obviously 5775c and 7700k do not. Those are as high as those platforms will let you climb. And that is kind of why I mentioned all of this to begin with, because a lot of people think that 4790k is the top of the line on z97, but that is obviously not true as the 5775c is a nice upgrade. Better perf, has magic cache, better temps, less power draw.

I guess it's possible that Intel has a poor showing in the RyZen aftermath but that would be a pathetic time to fumble . They way they appear to be unconcerned about Ryzen leads me to believe the answer is already coming.

Fact is still true that one just has to move up in rez to buy their cpu a couple years of relevancy. At 4k, even the 2600k will do decently.

I'm likely waiting until August and going with the 7740k for my new build. Skylake-X looks appealing but with a $1500 price tag it's likely overkill for a strictly gaming rig.

If Ryzen is gonna continue on the path it is now then that's my next CPU upgrade. The fact that I don't need to change to a new socket is a huge plus.

I myself run to bottlenecks from time to time on certain maps in battlefield 1 where I see 100% utilization on all 8 cores. Same goes for games like witcher 3 or the new ghost recon.

You litterly just said

i posted to show how well game utilise 8 core CPU if you were referring to 4/8 i7 then don't call it 8 cores because its not 8 core and just causes confusion.

Also on contrary to what you think i still run into some bottleneck even more so when I ran 1080 SLI its more so due to game CPU utilization rather than hardware problem but still it happens even on 5960x when pushing high frames at 1440 its not bad really but it does happen.

It's mainly Rise of the Tomb I'm concerned about. I'm in this area where sometimes the CPU will go tp about 50-60 usage while the GPU goes to the 70s. Funny thing is in the Witcher 3 fully maxed and getting the 120 I want easily. If I load an earlier area in tomb I hit my 120 no problem. So maybe it's the area I'm in. One other thing. I notice in some of my older games both CPU and GPU are at low usages but high framerates.. Could this be because the game isn't that demanding?

I guess my real issue is that I raised my expectations too much. I was hoping for 120+fps in every area of every game lol. If I sit back and look at it realistically this is still a massive jump from y 970 and an eve larger jump from my 460. I still may exchange it because of the coil whine though. It's real bad unless I crank up my speakers.
