I didn't know that was out. I'll give that a try. Link?

EDIT: Nvm, I saw the link.

Are you peeps trying the Strix BIOS on air? It has a higher power draw and it'll throttle. On my old BIOS I'd notice throttling started above 50C. I'm on water you see. redface.gif

I have a Kraken x41 on the GPU, which keeps it at 48C max on stock bios. I'm going to try the MSI one, but I get a feeling it will be the same thing.

MSI Bios flashed and I'm on the EVGA hybrid mod. thumb.gif

Does your max power limit only go up to 117%? I just flashed the MSI BIOS and it only goes up to 117 for me.

For me this translated into being able to run The Witcher 3 and Rise of the Tomb Raider at 60 FPS in 3D Vision (120 FPS 2D), up from ~35-40 FPS, with the same compromises (no Hairworks of course, but TressFX is ok!). This was absolutely worth it to me. I actually put down these two titles until some future point because they just look SO good in 3D but I just didn't have the GPU to run them and 35-40 FPS hurts my eyes. For a while I was running The Witcher 3 at 2103x1183 and it was playable, but there was still stutter at the 50 FPS I would see in certain areas such as Novigrad. I even tried running the game at 1920x1080 but that was just too blurry on this monitor (PG278Q, 27"). Now, 1080 Ti is running this game at the same smoothness and fluidity at 2560x1440 as 980 Ti was running it at 1920x1080.

I was going to wait until Volta, but to be honest, this card is fantastic at this price-point. Had Nvidia priced this thing at $800 and gimped it down from Titan XP I probably would have passed. But they didn't. It's actually faster, minus 1GB of VRAM, and runs a good 8C cooler:

https://www.hardocp.com/article/2017/03/09/nvidia_geforce_gtx_1080_ti_video_card_review/10

For some, especially those on 1080p, I could see this as being a non-essential upgrade. But for others, say those of us trying to push 3D Vision at 2.5k, this card is absolutely worth the money. Oh and Titanfall 2 saw a massive FPS improvement, I used to see dips down to 60-70 FPS in Angel City, but now, even with texture quality turned up to Insane, the minimums are like 100-110 FPS here. This game is so smooth, it's amazing. Oh and I'm seeing 8GB of VRAM used in this game and Rise of the Tomb Raider, so that's another thing to consider. 6GB is still adequate 90% of the time, but there are a growing number of titles that need more than that.

Here's an idea of performance gains to be had in The Witcher 3. Basically, 1080 Ti FE out of the box is 3-5 FPS FASTER than 980 Ti SLI out of the box:

60% improvement is pretty darn good. I guess i am just attempting to justify $1300AUD for an fps upgrade.
But i did invest in a expensive monitor, guess i need the grunt to run it to the full potential. thumb.gif

Man, this makes me miss my MSI 980 Ti, but the MSI Bios is running much better than the ASUS Bios. It doesn't draw as much power for whatever reason. This is at 2088 Mhz on the core. It performs on par with the Stock BIOs. But what will be nice is avoiding the power limiting.

Thanks for testing all 3 and posting your findings thumb.gif

How can the score be the same if the stock bios is hitting power limit and downclocking while the MSI bios stays at a constant 2088Mhz?
