Got my Aorus non-extreme two days ago and it runs pretty good out of the box but not so much when it came to overclocking. With the original bios the OC mode (which is just a +25 offset) was extremely unstable. After hours of testing I found that I could only get a +20 offset which would put me at about a 1949 boosted clock. At this time I couldn't push memory past 200 without stability issues. This is with max power limit.

I flashed the F4 bios and it did help plenty. With F4 I can run the OC mode and it is stable. With the voltage/freq curve I was able to get 1961mHz@1062mV which while it is pretty terrible compared to most its better than the 1049@1093 that it was running at. I am also able to push memory up to 500 or so now without issue.

You guys have any ideas for this card? New to overclocking with boost 3.0/pascal. I guess I just didn't win the lottery on this one?

Mine was a poop overclocker ad well, im capped put at 2025 with max voltage.

Try keeping the core <70 degrees and see if that improves you clocks. I spent an hour figuring out why i was crashing at previously stable 2025 clocks then realised my temps were 72 degrees at 90% fan speed. I cranked it to 100% trnps fropped to 65 and the core became stable again.

So after messing around with all the available bioses I decided to shuntmod my gigabyte founders 1080ti, TDP seems to be sorted, superposition @ 4koptimized @ 2075mhz @1.050v(locked) didnt hit the TDP limit not even close;)
But what does vrel mean ? It needs more voltage ? I dont know.

stockbios+POWERMOD+20PT @ 2075/12000@1.050v(locked)

stockbios+20PT@stocksettings = TDP limit

I think you need voltage man. I get higher results while power limited.

Its not only the GPU do you have a ryzen 1700 runnin at 3.9 aswell ?

4790K at 4.7 Ghz. But we're doing a 4K run, does cpu really hold it back? That's possible I guess.

Thanks for sharing photos. Will I have enough clu to do this, put some on gpu and also on other side of a copper shim?

Just a heads up: the Gigabyte cards have the highest TDP ceiling of all the 1080tis, however, the stock OC is extremely aggressive so you may have instability straight out of the box.
Also, despite having 12+2, it actually only has 3 voltage drivers (each has a quadrupler) thus its actually only 3 "true" Vcore phases. This means while it can supply massive sustained current, it also has the worst theoretical voltage regulation of any GTX 1080ti (I believe ASUS has the best regulation with 6 vcore drivers and no doublers, followed by MSI with same as FE but with better quality chokes and MOSFETs). Chances are any future MSI Lightning or EVGA Classified/Kingpin will have a heightened TDP ceiling as well.

Though from what I can say from personally using the Aorus, the fan is extremely quiet at 100%. Possibly the quietest of any model (barring the Seahawk), thus it makes little sense to run the fans <100%. In fact, some Aorus owners seem to have noticed the fans are actually relatively inefficient at low RPMs (I think MSI is the best in this area but I'm not certain).

The Aorus also stands to benefit hugely from a repaste, the stock paste is crap and/or non-existent.

I guess I'm getting the cart before the horse, since I'm buying the cards hoping EK releases a waterblock for them. With this in mind, knowing that the stock cooler is being removed, if they release a non-reference waterblock like they did for the 980 Ti, would I be better off with a different card?

Well, looks like EK will be releasing a waterblock for this GPU. Knowing that I'll be watercooling it, would that make any difference in which card you would get? I'm not sure what the benefits/drawbacks of having 6 vcore drivers vs 3 voltage drivers with quadruplers are, but having the highest TDP would imply higher overclocks, right? And since the cards will be watercooled, heat shouldn't be a problem either. Would this difference between the cards possibly lead to instability or something?

If I were you I would just get founders, you have plenty of founder cards to choose from ( and plenty of blocks, not just EK ) and after shuntmoding mine does 2100/12000 with 1.063v.
If you plan on watercooling anyway paying extra for the better cooler makes no sense, and be it mega super or hyper version, I am pretty sure none of em will come close to 2200mhz anyway, so save yourself some money and hassle and get founders.

Yo, not super if you saw me post earlier but if I just bought clu, will I have enough to shunt two resistors and two gpu-z die?
Shunts take next to nothing, and you will surely have enough to do both sides of yo shim!

Ya this is with the temps never going above 64 degrees in heavy stress testing.
