I cannibalised an old Palit Twin Fan GTX 570 heatsink. Now the core backplate + VRAM gets solid copper block cooling. Temps now hold steady at 60 degrees when running Supo 8K. Everything else doesn't break 55 degrees. Basically an additional 10 degree improvement on the Intel HSF mod.

I'm taking delivery of a dead Quadro Single slot GPU in a few weeks, cant wait to see this thing with a sexy blower on top.
that is awesome!

WARNING: I downloaded Afterburner Beta 7. Seemed to work great at first, then I got a BSOD and it corrupted my Windows 10 installation. Had to use ye olde Reset PC option and I'm still installing applications and drivers.

Use this at your own peril.

Holy smokes, thanks for the warning man.

I think I'm done chasing clock speed on this, I've moved on to trying to maintain a low voltage/clocks. Out of the box my boost was 1911mhz, so I'm aiming for 2012mhz for a nice round 100mhz OC. So far I'm pretty stable at 0.981v at 44c max.
nice. that's how you switch gears when chasing the dragon goes bad.

that's wise if you can afford it, definitely. the 5775-c's real value is that it is like a poor-man's-7700k-platform-mod, for less than $100net if you are on a 4790k already, in a 5 minute drop in.
Skylake-x is going to be a monster, though. And ryzen is a beast now.

Is throttling unavoidable if you reach a certain heat level? I think its strange that my Aorus throttles quite a bit already at 70-72 degrees. Dont think I got the best chip around unfortunately, as I cant seem to hit 2 ghz on air.

Hehe. Perhaps I will do just that. I presume you are talking about replacing the compound? Do the ram and vrm's use pads? No need to replace those I guess?

Hmm this is sad. Last night I was able to do 2025 with +51 voltage slider and now it won't do it unless I move up the slider to +76

it has a bunch of pads, just try not to move them around (or note where they were). it's an easy mod and very helpful.

If I end up chickening out on SLI and keeping my Zotac, Kryonaut is in my future. Is that also the preferred thermal compound for CPUs?

I used to try 2-3 pastes per CPU but eventually threw in the towel and went back to Arctic Silver 5.
