nonFE are peaking@330w some even more...and shunt modded cards could draw as high as 400w themselves smile.gif with OC'ed 6/12 x99 platform even 700w cold reboot in some occasions...i have a friend with 750w PSU and he's downclocking the video(MSI Gaming X 1080ti) in order not to have occasional reboots ... As was written previously - better have 1kw+ good PSU the difference is not huge but it will last for years w/o issues as some 600-700w PSU could have. thumb.gif

wait wait wait. So my 760w seasonic platinum PSU may not be enough for a single 1080ti over my highly overvolted overclocked and modded 970 sli? thinking.gif

It's more than enough. You're also running a lower powered quad core over that other guys 6 core.

Did your friend tested all voltage rails (5v, 3.3v and 12v) on the PSU and the watts pulled from the wall when it was rebooting? Defective PSU can happen especially if it's a poor brand / unit. What was the brand of the psu of your friend?

Not sure if using SC2 bios on FE is good idea?

Firstly the 0% fanspeed at idle hardly make sense when you look at the size of FE heatsink.

Can it passive cool when the tiny guy is hidden inside a shroud already? thumb.gif

Didn't say if it was stable for long though. Guessing not?

I guarantee that thing runs like a champion. He's one of the best guys when it comes to overclocking ability. There's a reason his avatar is Kingpin, and no matter what OC'ing site you go to online, he's always first place. Well, that could be a false claim, he's always been number 1 on the sites I've benched on, which are probably the most popular ones out there. It's possible he's not number 1 on all of them, since once you claim #1 on the most popular site, why prove yourself again to people who aren't even in the same league.

Something else:
I played around with a locked voltage at 1.093V and during a benchmark my pc shut down and restarted with a "unstable PCU warning". This is repeatable. I am pretty shure that my Seasonic Platinum 660W delivers enough power for the whole system, but I guess a shunt modded card which is locked at max voltage might draw more power in certain situations than the 6+8pin PCIe connector can deliver. When i go back to less than 1.093V this behavior does not occure anymore.

4.7Ghz is the sweet spot for my 4790k too, it is stable at around the the same voltage like yours, about 1,3V. For 4,8GHz i already need almost 1.4V.

At 1.092v you'll be drawing close to 400 watts so if you do that again you shouldn't leave the slider at 120% on power. At 100% that's around 400 watts.

With 1.092v, you can easily hit 400 watts.

You should be cautious flashing bios if you're on a FE, period. All the fans spin anywhere from 40%-75% of the FE maximum rpm.

I'd only recommend using the 0% fan for people on a hybrid.

760w Platinum Seasonic is more than enough he's got a poor old Chieftech with bad 12v rails power distribution and running 3960x@4.7 1.45v is also draining a lot.
Telling if you have to buy a new PSU it's better to trow like 50-100$ more and get 1kw+ unit instead ot 600 or 700 one..just to be on a safe side as a future proof solution wink.gif
Edit: Also the efficiency and cooling/noise/ when using 50% of it's capacity are much better than using 80-90%
