My card idles at 1550 which makes the temp much higher than it needs to be. I have a Gsync monitor and Gsync enabled in windowed mode. Does that have anything to do with it?

Card is a OC'ed 1080ti Strix on air.

EDIT: Should also add that i have one 1080p 144hz screen as well. So running 2x monitor setup.

I have a 1440p 144hz G-Sync monitor also and don't have any issues with downclocking, but since you are running two monitors that is most likely the reason why you're cards aren't clocking down.

hi, read through a lot of pages so far.... and got a general idea about the alternative Bios for our cards
I have a zotac 1080ti FE and even on air it used to hit power limit regularly
now i'm on a full custom loop, and full cover block, in usage at +150 clock, +20% power limit and +400 memory (just for testing purposes still) i can get power limit all through the afterburner logs, thats playing ghost recon wildlands at 4k, no where near 60fps frown.gif
thermals are good sitting mid 50 degrees c max through the logs

So, i'm wondering if i can try undervolting slightly and see if i can get stable higher clocks
otherwise.. would a zotac FE have different power limits to another FE?
how safe is it to raise the thermal cut on a FE with one of the other bios? i assume ours is currently set at 300W and i've seen a 330W mentioned

I would try that first. What are your current core clocks + voltage in game? 1.0v only seems to power limit in extreme cases and with a decent GPU combined with your water cooling, 2000 Mhz should be stable.

i will have to do some more logging, haven't noted the voltage at all yet (or unlocked it in afterburner), literally got the new build home last night and spent a couple of hours seeing how it behaved

I posted earlier that new drivers give around 1% to 2% performance increase.

Check voltage first. You might have a high GPU VID.

No, I have a zotac FE and they're all actually made from NVIDIA. They have a 300 watt limit and flashing bios doesn't really do anything for you. Worse performance trading for slightly more power.

Yes, you can undervolt to not hit the power limits but you shouldn't need to.

What you need to do is raise your other bins ti their highest OC possible. Luckily for me, I can do 2088 Mhz from 1.000v to 1.093v. I also have a zotac.

But my recommendation is to raise all the lower bin parts to their maximum. You need to OC each point starting from 0.998, 1.000, 1.0312, etc.

Then just play the game and leave it be. Let the card adjust itself, if the bins are close enough it won't cause slowdowns or lag.

Slow downs, lag and stutter happen if your card has something like this.

1850 Mhz @ 1.000v
2088 Mhz @ 1.032v

When the card down volts to 1.000v it drops clocks rapidly from 2088 to 1850.

You want something like this.

2050 Mhz @ 1.000v
2063 Mhz @ 1.032v

Etc.

Anyone know if you can slap EVGA Hybrid kit or NZXT Kraken + some AIO to ASUS STRIX 1080 Ti or MSI GAMING X?

Yes, Kraken G10 or G10 will more than likely work. As long as components aren't any higher than the FE or Titans, etc.

Put some heatsinks on the VRM and VRAMs though. They can make a 30C difference.
