Also excellent info about Shut Mod; I am desperately want to carry this out.

Shut mod now!

But sadly for me I will have to wait.... ????

OR.. I do have an unused Corsair H80iGT AIO CPU cooler, but of course I don't have any special bracket or anything to go with it for GPU?

I don't suppose there is easy temporary DIY "mount job" I could do? (I don't want to be cutting any plastic or doing any damage to FE cooler).

BUT........ I do have two complete sets of hardware for the H80IGT due to an RMA (they never asked for the hardware/brackets e.t.c but sent a brand new sealed boxed product out)...

So I have one expendable set of hardware for it... hmmmmm..... I wouldn't mind cutting/drilling into a set..
........but...... I would obviously be against touching any plastic on the GPU.

However.. I've never even installed an AIO on a card before.. only ever done the full-cover water-block..

And I heard taking the stock cooler off the FE is a lot trickier than simply removing the heatsink/fan from an EVGA card for example... (so would it be worth the hassle)??

Could it work? (DIY job)? Until I can get full-cover block after next weekend??

What you think guys, can it be done? Or am I insane? lol

Use zip ties onto the gpu, wouldn't be too different from other things I've seen you do lol.

Here's you go, you'll need a shim if you decide to keep the MIDPLATE blower.

I've found that if I set my voltage to 0.925mv or below the GPU doesn't throttle at all when temps increase, can someone else verify this for me? Does it change from GPU to GPU or is 0.925mv the absolute maximum where you don't see thermal throttling? I've test 0.931mv and it's a no-go.

@Benny89

Played and ran W3 for 6hours today. Let it run while i ate and took breaks. In normal play it holds 2088 all the time since i regulary use the map and it gets a rest. But no perfcaps and no crash or artifacts. Lowest clock was 2075. My room got a bit warm from it though lol, but max temp was 65 with fanspeed peaking at 80%

At which resolution? Your card should be a golden one to be able to maintain such clocks for hours. Was it curve or just the old way sliders?
Mine can't keep up even close - in W3 it can only do max 1936 stable with no jumping all over the place, it's 4k. The power draw in W3 in just horrendous as it seems.

Nice article.. I've been reading and viewing the pictures...

I do actually have some copper shims.

Reason:

When I was experimenting with trying to get BEST POSSIBLE temps on my 1080 Classy; I tried replacing 0.5mm thermal pads with 0.5mm copper shims (for memory).. copper is 401 w/Mk vs a thermal pad 3 w/MK.

Anyway because they were so cheap and I knew I wanted to "try everything" and didn't quite know what I was getting myself into or what I might need after I ripped the block off (and knowing they would take 4 weeks from China) I just ordered everything.. a load of different sizes.... 0.5, 0.6, 1.0mm, 1.5mm etc etc.

Trouble is, they're ALL only 15mm x 15mm (LxB)....

Yep; I've got all different thicknesses; but only one size (length / breadth).

The article says I'd need 2.5mm x 2.5mm. :-(

So looks like I'm going to have to just leave it...

You know; I've even been tempted to measure my block for my 1080 Classy up and see if it would do any good lol... in theory.. no matter what design all blocks will have the same 4 screws around the GPU Core. (all other screw positions obviously will be different -- but 4 would be enough).... even if the block hangs over drastically on the upper side (part furthest away from board) it wouldn't really matter.. lol...

Anyway; I think I'm now beginning to become guilty of 'wishful thinking' lol.

Better stop while I'm still ahead haha ;-)

Mind you; imagine if it did; by some miracle actually fit (line up just barely where it needs to in the most important places... lol

nahhh...........

I just got my shiny new ASUS STRIX OC 1080 ti installed, and wow it is a beast!

What are you asus owners using to control the color on the video card, ASUS Aura?

Last question Afterburner 4.3.0 or GPUTweak?

Currently using the latest version of GPU Tweak II with no issues, as well as Aura Graphics.

Curve is set to 1.05v and 2100 clocks down to 2088 at 1.043v and sometimes down to 2075 at 1.031v

Im playing full ultra full hairworks at 1440p. Maybe the resolution is the reason?

Check your perfcap? Are you shunt modded?

That can for sure can power limit you. It likes 1.032v for absolute smoothness.

Nice mate! Your card is platinium.... Compare to this mine is poop.

Well, gonna grab new one tomorrow and return old one. We will see if I will also be lucky smile.gif

Question: how were you finding your max clocks? You were just draging each bin higher and higher with Heaven running and see when it crashes?
